A Pontic ambassador arrives at the Seleucid army camp, requesting an audience with King Antiochus the Tidy. Antiochus was a portly man with a fastidiously trimmed beard. The helmets and armor of his guards were incredibly shiny from hours of polishing. The king was washing his hands in a bowl of scented water when the ambassador bowed and said, “King Mithridates the Poisoner concedes that you have out-maneuvered him and therefore offers a peace treaty. This treaty includes an exchange of each other’s newly-conquered regions. Will you accept?”

The Senate dispatches the ambassador Cornelia Metella (age 42), sister of the Consul Lucius Cornelius Scipio, to the Kingdom of Pergamon.

It is a difficult journey by sea since her ship passes through the war-ravaged Aegean Sea. When Cornelia arrives, she requests an audience with King Attalus the Good (age 78) or his heir, Princess Eurydice the Fair (age 24).
Attalus is a Platonic philosopher with a large white beard who was chosen by the citizens of Pergamon to be their king during the Collapse. He adopted Eurydice as a young girl in 270 BC to educate her as a philosopher and be his heir.
When granted an audience, Cornelia bows and says, “I come on behalf of the Senate and People of Rome to humbly ask your majesty for an alliance between our states. Greece is ravaged by war and the Senate believes that together, Rome and Pergamon can restore order, peace, and prosperity to the Aegean.”

Aemilia Cotta travels in secret to the court of King Antigonus III, the One-Legged, of Macedon.

Aemilia with her Praetorian escort (and rumored lover), Manius Phallus Maximus

Antigonus, born in 294 BC, was from Egypt but fled to Macedon during the Collapse. As a teen in Egypt, one of his legs was bitten off below the knee by a large crocodile. He walks with a peg-leg now.

When granted an audience by the Macedonian king, Aemilia bows and says, “I come on behalf of the Senate and People of Rome to inform you that the Roman Republic will soon attack Epirus. We ask you to aid us by declaring war on Queen Olympias II of Epirus. Under King Pyrrhus, Epirus conquered Macedon before everything was lost in the Collapse, and his daughter will be no different. To prevent Epirus from ever overthrowing you, your majesty, let us work together to conquer Epirus.”

Aemilia Cotta travels to the Athenian capital in southern Thessaly.

The Athenian citizens gather in a great assembly to hear what the Roman diplomat has to say. “Rome has learned that Epirus plans to take advantage of your war with Sparta to conquer all of Greece. The Senate and People of Rome are preparing to go to war against Epirus and we ask you, brave citizens of Athens, to join us in this coming war. Rome will help you fight to preserve your freedom!”

OOC: Rome spends 1 prestige to persuade Athens to declare war on Epirus.

A new diplomat, Marcus Fabius Cato (age 50), travels in secret to the great capital city of Pella in Macedon.

He requests an audience with Prince Philip the One-Handed (age 21), since King Antigonus the One-Legged is apparently not interested in listening to foreign dignitaries. Perhaps the king will listen to his son?
To Prince Philip, Fabius Cato delivers the same request. “Epirus currently occupies half of old Macedonia and surely covets the rest. They are a threat to you, young prince. The Senate and People of Rome offer to aid you in conquering Epirus if you begin to mobilize against them now.”
He also presents a map with a proposed division of Epirus between Macedon and Rome:

"Epirus’ twelve regions will be evenly divided between Macedon, Rome, and Rome’s ally of Pergamon," Cato explains. "If Athens joins the war, Rome will give them the Ionian Islands."

OOC: Rome spends 1 prestige to persuade Macedon to declare war on Epirus.

If Macedon refuses Rome’s request again: Marcus Fabius Cato also secretly docks at the city of Ambrasia to meet with Queen Olympias II (age 41) of Epirus. When granted an audience, he bows and says, “Rome is willing to improve relations with Epirus. If you will follow your father’s footsteps in conquering Greece, and not southern Italia, Rome will aid you in that endeavor. Just before the Collapse, King Pyrrhus had conquered Macedon. Surely you would like to restore the glory of Epirus by retaking control over Macedon?”

You hear the Athenian citizens murmur amongst themselves. They've already lost their capital (twice!) and their Great City due to war, and are reluctant to get dragged into yet another conflict. [2] They decline to declare war on Epirus at this time.

Prince Philip the One-Handed listens intently and seems to be interested in the proposal. He later approaches his father with this idea... unfortunately the King puts his (single) foot down and ends the discussion. "I've told the Romans already, we will not war with Epirus! Not this year." [2] Macedon declines to declare ware on Epirus.

Marcus Fabius Cato (age 52) finally arrives on the shores of Britannia. He makes his way to the great city of Camulodunum.

The Roman diplomat bows and says, “Rome has heard much about the conquests of the Iceni and the bravery of their warrior-queen. The Senate and People of Rome offer you an alliance. Together, we can defeat King Lugotorix the Smelly of the Arverni. What say you?”
