I've been trying to learn Arabic...i've not made much progress into vocabulary yet, as i've been trying to get the script and pronunciations down...i'm having a rough time of it...and well, a native speaker to practice with would be nice.

After watching Team America, I have learned that you only need to know four words to speak Arabic: Muhammad, Jihad, Bakala, and Dirka.
I think this should be in the Barbara Taverna. I would suggest starting an Arabic thread there and see who posts. It would probably be helpful to learning the language.
Or try to find a mosque. I found that some mosques offer arabic lessons.
I can read it but i've forgotten all the vocab. I only remember a few phrases.
I think there are quite a few arabic learning cd's around, you should grab some of those they are great for learning pronounciations and such.
Those learning CD's suck. I remember my cousin had one for Japanese and I was in the 8th grade about 4-5 years ago. It didn't help much. I would suggest taking a class in a community college if theirs one by you. So far I've tried looking for one that offers Arabic and Farsi but all I keep finding is Hebrew, Latin, Greek, Romance lanuages (Italian, French, Spanish, and German. Basic stuff you can learn in high school.
I know a few words its not THAT hard to speak it, the writing however is.
I found the gibberish and Team America quotes VERY helpful. If you have a chip on your shoulder about Middle Eastern culture, here isn't the place to voice it.
...
I've looked at local colleges and such...looked for tutors, and everything. The closest place I find is still an out of state college, and doesn't offer my majour (Culinary Arts). I've been looking around for tutors, but I can't seem to find any. I have a language CD and have been using it, but it's not much help. I forget everything I just learned the moment I stop the CD.
You can also write it down one word at the time, that worked for me :thumbsup:Quote:
