I would guess it is the fade out when you get to close to units which was introduced (but that you could not toggle) with a recent R2 patch.

Future hardware up my ***, they blame on the hardware instead of optimizing their game. What ****** excuse

Yeah, this.
There have been many requests since July to insert a toggle for this forced "feature" no one requested in Rome II (something that would have required almost no work and could have be implemented in one of post EE patches), but apparently they don't care about Rome II customers and they are using it as an Attila selling point.
Good job CA, really good job!

Why on earth is there no 2xMSAA, just off/MLAA/4xMSAA

CA is doing the least amount of work required across many fronts. Only my opinion.

It almost sounds like a joke.

My 4670K and GTX 780 is getting hit pretty hard when maxing this game out, but hopefully stuff will improve soon :)

Why would it? The key issues, like the extreme CPU bottleneck in many situations (e.g. unit closeups, higher shadow settings, ..) hasn't improved in 1 1/2 years for Rome 2. Instead CA reduced the LOD and implemented that fading out of units when u get too close (which is at least configurable in Attila).
You can expect maybe some small gains from driver updates but I wouldn't expect much from CA (other than reducing the graphics fidelity).
Attila looks pretty ugly atm, with HIGH settings... and when looking at performance its heavier than Rome II....

Yep it's pretty much as I predicted. The game is an improvement over Rome2 but hampered by the engine. Pretty massively in fact. A shame CA. A shame....

Re: An Official note on ATTILA & Performance
Hey fellas, I hope you can enlighten me.
Once I boot up Attila and look at the main menu, the horse-archers in the background don't run in a smooth animation like they should--they stop and stutter. There seems to be lag in general throughout the main menu. What is this an indication of? Despite updating all my drivers, I am also given a message before launching Attila that my drivers may not be updated. Any feedback & suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Re: An Official note on ATTILA & Performance
I can run Rome 2 with big battles perfect.
now however with Attila the lag is unrelentless, even with updated drivers and stuff. What an absolute bummer that is.

Re: An Official note on ATTILA & Performance
I actually got defaulted to Extreme. I have a GTX 980. I ended up going down to performance because it removed any hint of lag and the game still looks great.

Same the performance I am getting is terrible and it doesn't matter what graphics settings I run. It must be a driver issue. Nvidia has been TERRIBLE with Rome 2 performance. Every driver they release I get worse performance than the previous.

I'm getting the same message despite the fact that drivers are up to date. Also, if I start the game ignoring the message, there will be total lagging in the introductory video sequence already, which cannot possibly be due to army size, graphic settings, etc. Rome 2 runs well on the same maschine with high settings, if not with the highest.
Thank you for any kind of help. It's a bit of a disappointment to not even be able to enter the menu.

I have the same problem, I can barely do anything in the main menu.

I don't know what would cause that, but you two may want to post your dxdiag. Perhaps there's a common thread.
