I believe they are suppressing people who speak out like Hrant Dink was. People who own a bazaar wouldn't pose much of a threat to the ideals of the government I don't think.:)

And yet they had thousands of people rally behind him after his death.
I would blame "ultranationalists" for that. I cant think that innocent turkish ppl would hate armenians. For what then, what have armenians really ever done to them?
So thats probably the reason why many Turks supported Hrant dink.
to stop a rally like that would be stupid an would really look bad......in stead they allowed the rally and it sure looked good in the eyes of the world community.....
but that is in istanbul......the Armenians in sassoun, diyarbakir and other parts of eastern Turkey has a very difficult time that's why everyone moves to Istanbul....that's what my family did before going to Sweden....
it's not only the government (who has been improving more and more) it's many people who has hatred towards the armenians.....

the state don't gain anything just by oppressing random Armenians.....people like Hrant Dink....they are the ones who are oppressed.. they are the one who can't talk without stumbling over article 301.....
.....
so....how was it in Turkey...did you meet many Armenians? did you go to any other place besides instanbul

Ah, I understand.
In Turkey, we only visited Istanbul and Izmir (and its surroundings: Ephesus, house of Virgin Mary).
In Greece we went to Rhodes (which was awesome), Athens (which I'm kind of dissapointed with), and Katakalonos (nearby is Olympia, but we decided to just relax and swim in the sea).
In Italy we were in Napoli, Tuscany, and Rome.
I wonder that to, it should be such a lovely city... dirty air though in the city because of the trafic lol
Im going to go to Thessaloniki soon, where my friends hometown is. But thats prob in a couple of years.

I am not an expert but I believe he led Karabakh in an open revolt against the Safavid Empire which gained Karabakh its independence for about a decade until his death. His successors were incompetent I guess, my memory is very sketchy on this, I learned it in Armenian school quite a while ago...
THank you Drtad and Sir William welcome

EDIT: By the way, does anyone have any names and info on Armenian merchants from medieval times and what resources the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia traded?
