What armor would you prefer?
I myself, prefer a combination of lamellar, plate and chain-mail armor, as it allows for a good combination of both flexibility and protection (although it will be a little chunky, I think I can deal with that) kinda like O-yoroi, but without the boxy parts. I'll draw it out :D, just give me a while.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
"Armor? We don't need no stinkin' armor!" :laughter:
I actually would prefer to go either padded or none, chainmail is just too heavy for me.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
The Aztecs soaked theirs in sea-water (which makes it tougher after it has dried), and from many accounts, the Spaniards had a hard time cutting through it with their swords. Smart, I say

Improved Outer Tactical Vest, an improved version of the IBA. I've worn the IBA (with SAPI plates) before and its suprisingly comfortable. After a while of wearing it you don't even notice you have it on till you take it off. Also with the plates it'll stop 7.62mm ammo (the caliber of the AK-47) and would be very effective against any bladed weapon. Unlike the IBA this body armor has side plates, eliminating one major weakness of the IBA design. With the DOJ ending its use of Dragonskin, the IOTV seems the best design available.

Advanced Combat Helmet. Its comfortable and will stop a 5.56mm round at point blank range. Not too bad if I say so myself.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
Oops, I forgot to mention, it's "old-time" armor. but both old and new armor is fine.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
The kind that works
I think you might be the third person to try and make a spinoff of "weapon of choice"
And the third who has failed.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
I don't care. I was just curious at what others would use if they had the choice to.
Jeez, get off my back.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
New - What Farnan just posted.
Old - Think of Nightmare in Soul Caliber. Ooooh yeah....
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
I'm too weak to wear armour or carry weapons...
I just get a book and BORE the *******s to death. :laughter:
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
A 1/2 sleeve, mid-thigh, no hood chainmail for me, please. Very comfortable. You can do pretty much everything in it except swimming. You can wear them for prolonged periods without getting excoriations (sp?). The only harm they do to you is give you a little exercise.
The protection isn't bad at all actually. Provided it is good steel.
Although thick forests with pointy branches can be a pain in the ***, I recall.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
Woad. And a little of that juice cooked up by my friendly local druid. Armour is for pussies (if you are scared of getting hurt, go do something harmless, like knitting.. :P )

Not only is it armour but it has a mean cannon at the front as well. Sea Salt.......:laughter:
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
I'd have to go with something light. Padded leather would probably be the best, though Samurai armour might work too.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Naked and woad like ummagumma, proper Iceni style. Lets face it, if you're in the front line on one those battles you will die whatever armour you have on. Ofc I'd prefer to be sitting waaaaaaaaay back at home and let some other poor suckers do the fighting like I do now ;)
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Alternatively you could be a rich bastard and just sit on the horses at the back until all the peasants have been slain and they need you to charge on the remainder of the enemy army.
Plus, I wouldn't be in battle. I'd be back home in my posh castle looking after the kids :)

I not aware of any battles during Roman and Medieval times that took place were a side used inexperianced peasent armies.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
scale, chain mail, and leather armor. Mostly central asian to saracen type of armors is my kind
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Hmmm I want the one Darth Vader has... Not the black one. The armor that is the Force.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Just some leather/padded for me, with a more durable shield. Let speed be my best protection.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
I would use just plain leather armor, also wearing a hooded cloak. Something like what an elven ranger would use. Something that would make me fast and maneuverable.
I'm more of the stealthy-like archer/assassin type.:ninja:

How patient are you?
When I have a rifle or a bow in my hands, I am able to wait for a very long time in order to hit a target.
And I mean a very long time.

How patient am I? When firing a bow? I guess not that patient. Well, usually I don't wait for a long time to get a perfect shot  Just quickly aim, make sure it's gonna be perfect, decide how much power you're gonna put, then shoot. I hit the target in or really near the center most of the time. I try to strike true, and first.
If you mean how patient I would be waiting for a target to come by, then I can be very patient.

I didn't mean in waiting to shoot an arrow, but that works too. I was actually talking about in waiting for a target, and then firing.
How about rifles?
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Rifles? I haven't held a rifle before. I usually spend time in the archery range in my camps. When I get older maybe.
And about being patient, yes I can be very patient. Living in a house filled with little kids, I got used to it.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Well, that's still quite excellent, by any degree.
What's the poundage on your bow?
But just let me tell you - holding a rifle and sniping is one of the most calming experiences you can ever have. It's meditation for me.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
My bow poundage would be somewhere between 40 to 50. Kinda weak isn't it?
Ahh, I can't wait till I can finally hold a real sniper rifle.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Ah, excellent. You're around where I am.
My life-long dream is to use a 100lb. Long bow regularly.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
I want to use a Hornbow with a full 160 lb. draw regularly. Thing is that would be expensive, probably illegal and would take a long time to master.
btw, this is the armor I would use (I drew it last night). I want armor that's extremely tough, but very flexible at the same time, I believe lamellar and chainmail with plates at vital points are ideal for this.
And so, this finally proves that I have way too much time on my hands.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Roman-style segmented plate armour for me. Strong enough to take a ballista bolt to the chest and still flexible. If not that, i'd take a mail hauberk or Japanese lamellar.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Don't take it personally spartan I'm ****ing with you.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
lol
the picture only took me an hour and a half
but I still say I have way too much time on my hands
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Heavy chain mail with bronze breastplates, steel greaves and either Montefertino or Imperial Gallic Helmet, with a Scutum and a couple of bronze bracers.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Depleted uranium.
Works nice for the M1A1 Abrams tank.
But I have seen a vest on the show Future Weapons where it can withstand a grenade blast when placed on top of the grenade.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Dragon Skin. There is some controversy revolving around the armor system itself. Some claim that the armor is prone to failure and others claim that the entire armor system is fatally flawed.
Rubbish if you ask me.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
I'd go with steel lamellar chestpiece with a helmet that does not cover my face, greaves, bracers, a studded leather flapskirt, and a large wood reinforced steel shield.
It allows for ease of movement and protection. Of course a strike with a mace is the weakness. But I just have to make sure I'm more skilled with faster reflexes to avoid such a hit.
Modern: all armour is essentially the same, just different quality, and some pieces removed or added on depending on your role.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
Either Gothic plate armour:

Or good quality mongol lamellar armour with a padded siken aketon (ignore the blondish guy):

Re: What armor would you prefer?
PAPA (Power Assisted Personal Armor) from from Robert A Heinlein's "Starship Troopers". Folks, 6 guys in fully optioned out PAPA could destroy a small city.
Starship Troopers SUCKED because the producers dumbed it down to appeal to the instant gratification (wizz bang, OH that's a nice sexy chick) crowd.
People, what the author intended in his original book on the assault on Klendathu was 6-8 PAPA equipped Starship Troopers doing a bug raid.
It's an all time SCI FI classic. Get a fire going, grab a blanket, have a glass of decent brandy handy and read Starship Troopers.

Lorica Segmentata for me. Strong, yet flexible. Combined with a nice big shield and a stabbing sword, it's all i'd need.
-
Re: What armor would you prefer?
The problem with the Scutum is that it's plywood. In the Battle of Carrhae, the soldiers who were in the testudo formation actually got their hands pinned to their shields by the arrows (ouch). And shields that are made only of wood can easily be destroyed by shock weapons.
Of course, anyone can use whatever they like.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
Ahh don't know about old school armor but I like Terran Marine combat suits...

You gotta love that Reinforced Steel, with cushioned body and automatic cooling sytem, Helmet for oxygen, status updates, commlink, and Visor for increased awareness.
Together with the C-14 Gauss Rifle, You'll have a combat unit with a lifespan of 4-9 seconds at the surface of Char.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
For some reason Terran Marines die so easily despite having such bulky armor.
Grey Knights Terminator Armor:

Now THAT'S something I'll use anytime.

Re: What armor would you prefer?
Ah yes, I know, I know..I wish Terran Marines had Huge swords...
