Default Your Favorite Guitar Lines, Rhythms, Leads etc. and/or Solos

    Hey everyone, Necromancer here!

I figured I should start this neat little thread because I LIVE for music, Total War is a big part of my life, but music will ALWAYS come first, I wanna make it my career. Alas, I digress...

I just wanted to know everyone's favorite guitar lines, solos and all that. What the hell, it doesn't even have to be guitar. Drums, bass etc. as long as it catches your ear and makes you say "Hey, cool!" If possible, send us a music video, sound clip, link etc. (Maybe even a tablature if possible, that'd be awesome!)

Here's a few of mine, I'll post more later once the thread gets going!

    The Trooper - Iron Maiden
The main riff, which is a melody-harmony line (a traditional Maiden trend), supported by a bass line which controls the root of the chord, changing key every few measures, giving the entire riff more emotion and depth. Those simple trills and vibratos just make the entire song sound SO amazing. In his solo, Adrian Smith uses his traditional "rolling" technique (string bend followed by three separate notes) and it just fits the song so well, it just plants the image of charging cavalry in your skull. And Dave Murray's following solo just plants the last piece in the puzzle with the noodley, progressive/degressive trills he's famous for.

The Trooper, intro and main line

    Legend:
    (?)= pinch/artificial harmonic
    ~= vibrato
    h= hammer-on
    p= pull-off
    INTRO AND OUTRO 4x:

    |---------------------------------------------------------|
    |---------------------------------------------------------|
    |---------------------------------------------------------|
    |------------------------------------------------5--------|
    |--(7)--7--7-5-----5--5--5-3-----3--3--3-1-----5---5--7--|
    |--------------7-------------5-------------3--------------|

On repeat 3 and 4 Adrian harmonises with:
    |---------------------------------------------------------|
    |---------------------------------------------------------|
    |---------------------------------------------------------|
    |--(5)--5--5-4-----4--4--4-2-0---2--2--2-0-----4-5-4--5---|
    |--------------7---------------------------3--------------|
    |---------------------------------------------------------|

    MAIN RIFF:

    Aces High - Iron Maiden
Another awesome Iron Maiden line, very similar to The Trooper in construction, but it brings a whole new experience while sticking to their traditional style and tone, the ending line is especially cool.

Well, keep on posting and don't stop! REPS to those who bring an especially cool line, so here's your oppurtunity to get some quick rep points! But seriously, share what your favorite segments are and tell us why!

I dont play much metal anymore, mostly acoustic stuff. But my current favorite guitar is Neil Young's "The Needle & The Damage Done" So many cool little hammer ons and it just plain rocks. It's a sad song, but so beautiful to play once you get it down.

Heres a youtube link to a great guitar lesson teaching you how to play it.

    Part 1: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6EI6uS4C3Pw
    Part 2: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wddLAdue5fk

And finally heres Neill himself doing the song. Great stuff.

Pink Floyd's "Is there anybody out there?" is also great to play.

    Lesson: http://youtube.com/watch?v=j2k36B55Uco

    Tab: http://www.azchords.com/p/pinkfloyd-...abs-62424.html

    Edit:

Heres some Slayer "South of Heaven" Just the little intro.
    |-------------------------------|--------------------------------|
    |-------------------------------|--------------------------------|

    |------9-10--10---9----8--------|------9-10--10---9----8---------|
    |---7---------------------------|---7----------------------------|
    |-0-----------------------------|-0------------------------------|

Extremely easy compared to the Neil Young or Pink floyd but still very cool.

For acoustic, I'd recommend Suidakra's Serenade to a Dream and In Flames' Everlost Part II.

When it comes to Metal, while I like playing the E-chugging Thrashy songs such as Exodus' Bonded by Blood or Kreator's People of the Lie, I also enjoy riff-based tracks such as Immortal's Mountains of Might and Bal-sagoth's Calisto Rising. All these tabs are pretty easy to find on 911tabs.com even on the GP format.

That was awesome man! Ya, I like a lot of acoustic stuff as well. Who's this guy, Neil Young? He's good. He's real good... and that Paul at the end...

Here's a great acoustic piece by Judas Priest, the rhythm and lead blend SO well together. I Love listening to this song. Just the way how it's written, it's amazing! It's such a beautiful, sad song! God... Rob Halford can still sing just as well as he could 30 years ago... he's famous for his high-pitched screams and such, but he has a BEAUTIFUL singing voice.

Here's another sad piece with some great guitar and bass work (I LOVE Steve Harris, he plays the bass like Getty Lee, he takes the name of the instrument "Bass Guitar" literally, he plays it like a lead guitar! Adrian Smith has the lead part in this song, while Dave Murray gets to hang back and provide the rhythm. Bruce Dickinson's operatic vocals just make the song that much sadder.

Now for an exciting one! Another Priest song! This one's a cover-version of THE first rock'n roll song, Johnny B. Goode! This is the heavy metal version, so the tone's beefed up and a tad louder than the original. Glenn and K.K.'s mini-solos are SO awesome, they just struck a chord with me (no pun intended) the first time I heard them, heck the whole song! And the duet is just SO rad!

A rather lengthy post I must admit, but it was totally worth it! Delivering the word of the OLD Heavy Metal Religion. You know? The Classic British New Wave of the late 70's and the 1980's. I'm definetly more into the British sound than the American sound, although I do like Megadeth and some of Pantera's stuff, and Trivium's latest stuff isn't too bad either, which is ironic because it sounds a bit like Metallica, who I can't stand in the least, along with Slayer and all of those fakes.

ANESTHESIA - PULLING TEETH by Cliff Burton (Metallica). Never did learn this all the way through. I can play like the first half almost. Kickass song! Cliff was a brilliant bass player, a mad man, he played a bass like it was a 6 string. This **** just sounds unearthly.

    Tab:http://www.azchords.com/m/metallica-...abs-87099.html

Heres a video of Cliff's 2nd gig with Metallica. Unbe****inlievable.

Here's an amazing piece with some great solos! Some of the MOST amazingly intricate fingerwork I have ever SEEN and HEARD!!! Glenn's solo is SO inspiring, it makes me wanna go out and rock the planet... oh, God! And K.K.'s just means business, as usual! K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton are the most amazing heavy metal musicians that I have EVER come across and heard, they play this stuff like it's nothing!

    Painkiller, Judas Priest

You wanna learn these solos THAT bad??? Well I'm WAY too tired to type them up right now, so here ya go... Also if you don't have it already, get GuitarPro... best guitar program in the world. Plus the GP tabs are WAY better!

    Ya hunter!

    "Rocka Rolla woman
    for a Rocka Rolla man,
take her if you want her,
    if you think you can!"

Wish I could give you some rep, but I gotta "spread the wealth" before I can give some to you again. Well, all you need is MY recognition... that's all you need... LOL!!!
