    Default 3ds max questions

I have used up my 30 days free trial, on version 7.
Can I then download version 6 or 8 or 9 and se that for another 30 days?

    And something more:
How in h**l can you afford 3ds max (the real one!) ??

Regarding your first question, I assume that tecnically each version is a separate product requiring a separate licence (e.g. you have to pay for either the complete new product or at least the upgrade). That's how it was when I worked in the software industry years ago. If this is still the case, then version 7, 8, and 9 are all different products and you should be able to trial each of them... But I really am just guessing, and it also depends on how 'fair' the vendor wants to be.

Regarding the second question, I think maybe there's an 'academic' version available? These versions are sold to schools/colleges for a fraction of the cost and are made available to the students. Which means that if you are a student on a software design course, or something similar, you can easily gain access to the product.

I would also imagine that there are a lot of unlicenced (i.e. illegal) copies out there - although I am sure no Total War modder would ever do such a dastardly deed. But computer piracy is a fact of life.

You're right though, the cost is prohibitively high for the typical non-student casual user. It's fine for corporations, but the developers should release a cheaper version for hobbyists who aren't looking to profit commerically using the product. I have also heard about various free programs like Wings 3D, but I have no idea how good they are.

    Ok, thanks Crawe

Heard a lot about it, is it the same as 3ds max? Can you "build" new units?

Only 3dsmax has the .cas importer/export (that I know of). It was made by a member of this community (Vercingetorix) specifically for this task, but is only compatible with 3dsmax.

    Ok, damn!

Is it possible that one with 3ds max take an soldier, save it as 3dsmax file and send it too me? Wings 3d can read 3ds max files (if it is 3ds files )
