Am I the only one who thinks both CNN and Fox News are fair?

Honestly. I watch a lot of CNN, and I watch a lot of Fox News. Maybe I'm just ignorant but I don't see it. Everyone says CNN is part of the liberal media, and everyone says Fox News is republican, but I think they are both quite balanced. Their "normal" news shows show the issues and talk about them, normally giving a somewhat balanced view, with facts that back up the statement made, rather than just a plain liberal or conservative view without any evidence. The shows that are liberal and/or republican advertise themselves to be so, so I don't see the problem there. If I watch Hannity's America, I know I'm in for some Bush-loving, Bible preaching, hippie bashing, and when I watch The Situation Report I get myself ready for some probable climate change news and Bush bashing. As a whole, though, I think both networks balance out pretty well. I've heard plenty of people supporting the war on CNN and plenty of people attack it on Fox News.

Hey Being Scottish I obviously don't watch these news shows but we do have similar arguments between BBC news and ITV news which are supposedly representing political parties and views. Do you have papers that are accused of the same bias? In the UK The Sun newspaper is well know for being Pro Labour etc.

I think you can get it through cable... somehow... not sure. But it's widely known and everybody's seen clips and concludes "haha, Americans."

Yeah, Sky channel 510, CNN is 506
Fox is fairly terrible and features no international news or anyhting even vaguely useful. CNN is a decent alternative to BBC, better than Sky news.

Doesn't the Sun support whoever looks most popular?

I had a german exchange student come to my high school last year (America), and when he arrived he was like, "Why isn't everyone overweight and eating fast food for every meal? Why are some of you actually intelligent and tolerant? What is this place?!"

Thats different.
Its the Sun. Like much of the other ones, their the modern way of spreading rumours, and half heard gossip ect,
filled with speculation in order to make the customer pay.
No one really takes the Sun very Seriously.

Though it is very good for sport.
Sometimes get it just for that.

You forgot the damn Times! Daily Mail is not even close to a real paper. It is more a tabloid than the Sun. Much more.

In most countries CNN is considered slanted to the right.
I think it's only Americans who view it as "liberal media" (whatever the heck that even means)

Their "news" reports are way too sensationalist to be taken very seriously IMO.
Although they are often first to report a major event. (European channels are generally much slower to react)

They're all owned by someone... And whatever they decide for the direction in which their company is headed in, that's their decision. Who's to argue? There is no free media, it's all owned by someone.

Not all Americans. Some of us are familiar with politics in other countries and think CNN is to the right of center as well.

I prefer to get my news from the internet, where I can cross check every news item against other news sources.

The Times is very good at avoiding bias in its reporting. However it is currently anti-Labour in its cartoons and editorials.

I'm american and I've always been told to watch BBC for truly unbiased reporting. *shrug*...

But ive also heard stories of BBC's supposed heavy biases....blah blah blah etc...watch everything, problem solved

Its simply best to get your news from as many different sources as possible if you really are a news hound. Even then your own built in personal prejudices may sway your opinion in some cases. Most reports are biased in one form or another.
