There has been some topics talking about this subject, with some information. I suggest you look it up.
    Forgot the topic names though!

Last I heard was that Van Disel was directing it and be playing the part. And that he was getting some advice from Mel Gibson. Other than that its anyone's guess.

Well, the movie will not necessarily be inaccurate jus because Vin is starring and directing.
Although my hopes are'nt too high for this one, you never know.

I heard the Vin Diesel movie was going to be scrapped or turned into an animated movie. I hope that's just a rumor though. I really want to see a better live-action movie regarding Hannibal. There was one ages ago starring Victor Mature. What a waste of money!

But has anyone seen the British mini-series about Hannibal? Here's a clip from the show:

Of course, the real issue is that vast hordes of people will show up expecting another Hannibal Lechter movie...

Inaccurate? Vin Diesel has directed two short movies with a budget of $3000. Good choice for a $100,000,000 project. Plus he can use one and a half facial expression to act (smirking wrath being the one and wrath being the half). That would be so crap no one will have the chance to even look for accuracy...

And the description from IMDB is ...erm...

Vin Diesel stars as the Carthaginian general who led an elephant-riding battalion across the Alps to attack Rome in the 3rd Century B.C.

Hannibal and his bunch of merry men (and beasts)...

    Next, Danny deVitto as Churchill...

indeed. I read up on it a little, and he's been studying Hannibal for years. Also, the movie (from what little I've read) is going to be in Latin and Punic.

they cannot possibly be thinking of squishing all that history into a single movie. Either a trilogy or an epic failure.

I think the director/writer/producer/actor looks nice in a skirt. He will have to lose the boots for the role though...

Actually, they can consider to film whole Punic Wars into a trilogy, especially there are three Punic Wars and each of them connect well with others.

It is puzzling that you are unaware that 'accurate historical-movie' is an oxymoron. It has never happened.

Using my psychic powers I see....30 minutes too long...Angelina Jolie as his male lover...Rick Moranis playing something...way, way too much CGI that will look God awful in 5 years time.

Garb, you missed 'corpse, in rain' off your list of the big mans acting styles. Best bit of 'Saving...' IMHO.

Edit: If it was Hannibal Smith they might be onto something

That's not fair lumping Danny into the same category as that... martian.

Actually, I don't really loathe Diesel or anything. For good or for bad, he seems to take his acting and directing pretty seriously. If nothing else, he got Judy Dench to act in Chronicles of Riddick so he'll always have that going for him.

Now that I could imagine, although the Mr. T role might be more appropriate. "I pity da fool!"
