    is there a mod that dosn't total ruin the regular game?

    You mean like replace?

    Well there are several mods that have their own mod folder, which means that they shouldn't overwrite any of the main game's files. There are a lot of mods that do that, it's just a matter of finding which one is right for you. Some of the more popular mods are Stainless Steel (complete vanilla overhaul), Broken Crescent (focusing on the near, middle, and far east), and Third Age: Total War (a LOTR mod).

    Here is a list of hosted modifications for M2TW and here is a list for mods for the kingdoms expansion. In their description, it should say whether the mod is modfoldered or not.

    Just through them the mod thread always features it's details and with some cool screen shots as well.
    Also M2TW mods don't have advanced features as compared to Kingdoms ones.
