I use 3ds max version 8 and was wondering how to reduce or remove the "shiny" aspect of strat map models.
Shininess is controlled by a special texture called a normal map. It's like the regular texture, except it's black and white, with the whiter bits being the shinier.
Edit: Sorry, not a normal map, a specular map. Don't know how I got that mixed up.

in my experience this is something it has to do with the conversion of the model from 3dsmax to .cas, try to re-export the model from 3dsmax, if this doesn't solve it you will have to remove the edge in the side of the model which which you see this shine and reconnct the vertexes to create a new edge, normally after 2-3 tries you should have your model without shines

Try adding a smooth filter to the stack. You should be doing that with all strat models anyway...
I did experiment with them a bit but didn't see much difference in game, I tend to make my skins darker then most skinners anyway so never really had an issue with them being shiny... Adding a smooth filter negates the white blobbing bug that occurs with some models..
