Default Nightmare Assembly Kit [dave and bob trouble]

    I really don't understand these tools :|

I am trying to add a few new factions to the campaign map, as a nomad factions.

Normally I am using PFM for these things, but it was clear to me that I had to use the kit for these sort of things.
So I added a few rows to the different tables and so on, and then opened up form launcher to make the new factions (pretty bareboned just to try it out).
I read a few guides to ensure I wasn't walking blind into it:

I created the esf and I show no changes to the the campaign map (my first attempt was just moving some nomads around).
Second attempt was there I tried to added a new faction on the map (it refuse to compile the esf).
I later tried to create a pack file, but each time it wanted to take ALL files in the data folder, even other peoples work and png images (wtf?).
I called it the day and went to bed, as no solid understanding of the tools had been reached.
So imagine my surprise as I tried to compile the same esf file as a pack file with yesterdays work, and it worked!
The problem was still the same, no new faction no changes to the map nor in the esf, but a whole lot of weird files in the pack.
So I started up Dave to see what was up, and saw none of my changes in the DB (wtf?), I could still see the changes in the logg, but the DB was clean of my changes.
I did notice that each time I closed Dave, it asked me to submit the changes (just like a normal DB system), and here comes all my questions:

-what do they mean about "submit" as there are no button which says so, I just have the normal export which I did use.
-why do BOB not let me control which files I want in the pack file?
-why can't I look on changes I made yesterday, since the logg still shows it? maybe it was because I verified the files? (yes..... yes it was, the worst part is I didn't back up it :S)
-Or how can I continue editing the tables from day to day basic.
-why doesn't any of the esf I manage to compile not show any changes?

Is there any documentation I have missed to read about this system? I can't seem to understand this system? and how it works, which annoys me greatly.
Or Am I just very unlucky with my first time expires with it?
