BASIC INFORMATION
This is an emblems mod for The Age of Charlemagne DLC for Total War: Attila. Currently, there are 20 completed emblems covering 18 factions, 8 of which are playable in the game. I hope to add more in the future. Map and unit card colours have been changed to reflect the new emblems. The factions for which there are currently emblems are as follows:
- The Kingdom of Charlemagne (Playable with a choice of one of three emblems).
- The Kingdom of Carloman (Non-Playable).
- The Kingdom of Asturias (Playable).
- The Kingdom of the Lombards (Playable).
- The Kingdom of Mercia (Playable).
- Westphalia (Playable).
- The Danes (Playable).
- The Emirate of Cordoba (Playable).
- The Avars (Playable).
- The Theme of Sicily (Non-Playable and listed as the Byzantine Empire).
- The Kingdom of Northumbria (Non-Playable).
- The Picts (Non-Playable).
- The Kingdom of Alt Clut (Non-Playable).
- The Kingdom of Wessex (Non-Playable).
- The Papal States (Non-Playable).
- The Duchy of Benevento (Non-Playable).
- The Duchy of Spoleto (Non-Playable).
- The Kingdom of Britanny (Non-Playable).
There are three versions of the mod. This is because there are three available symbols for the “Kingdom of Charlemagne” faction. This explains why there is a discrepancy in the number of emblems (20) versus the number of factions for which there are emblems (18). The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that the “Emperor of the Romans” emblem has no historical place at the start of the game since it was adopted only after the Pope had declared Charles the Emperor of the Romans in the year 800 AD. However, since the game tries to guide players into founding new realms and Charles is referred to as Charlemagne (ie Carolus Magnus) from the first turn (despite having achieved nothing at that point historically) I thought his Imperial coat of arms would be a fun addition. I have added two other emblems for Charlemagne for those who are more inclined towards realism.
You can choose which of the three Charlemagne symbols you would like to use by downloading the relevant pack in the list below (under the sub-heading “Download and install information”). The First pack (listed as aoc_faction_emblems1) uses the “Emperor of the Romans” emblem for Charlemagne. The Second pack (aoc_faction_emblems2) uses the “Oriflamme” emblem for Charlemagne. The third pack (aoc_faction_emblems3) uses the “Oriflamme de Saint-Denis” emblem for Charlemagne. The emblems for every faction other than the “Kingdom of Charlemagne” are the same in each pack. In other words, you get your choice of Charlemagne’s emblem + 18 others.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have tried my best to make the emblems as “historically accurate” as is possible. Unfortunately it’s not always easy to find sources, even for the most well-known factions. Nevertheless, all of the emblems are inspired an historical source of one form or another. In any case, I plan to create more of these symbols in future, so if you have any suggestions or feedback or you have a specific faction you’d like me to make, please let me know below. In addition I hope to update the faction colours on the map and on the unit cards with colours which correspond to the emblems I have made.
Thanks to Augustusng and Summary for help with this.
