If I remember correctly the initial series had a lot of controversy because they used the RTW engine without permission. Then again I have a slightly troubled memory sometimes.

Yeah I thought that, but then when I checked the wiki page on it it didn't mention anything so I assumed I was wrong.

    Noted.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I am me. You are not me. You are you. If I was you, I wouldn't be me.
If you were me, I'd be sad.But I wouldn't then be me because you'd be me so you wouldn't be me because I wasn't me because you were me but you couldn't be because I'd be a different me. I'd rather be any kind of bird (apart from a goose) than be you because to be you I'd have to not be me which I couldn't do unless someone else was me but then they would be you aswell so there would still be no me. They would be you because I was you so to restore balance you would have to be me and them meaning all three of us would become one continously the same. That would be very bad.

How is everyone? Rex you were a wrinkly wordsmith a couple of years back, can you see the screen all right now? Looking forward to reading your piece!

It's great to see people returning to the Study. Welcome back! I'll read your new story, Rex Anglorvm. Incidentally, I noticed the link to your library thread in your signature. All library threads are moving to our new Inkwell, a sub-forum specifically for writers to list and comment on our collections of writing, so i will move your library thread into the Inkwell.

I am happy to report that, after a break, Tale of the Week is back! Voting in Tale of the Week 255 is now open, everyone is invited to read the stories and vote here.

    Ohh, votes...

By the way, I've started on the next chapter for Forgotten Tales of Germania. Given that my MBA semester exams are over and I tend to write in bursts than frequent updates, it should be up soon.

I was just wondering how people who read it did not ask some questions on the plot that would've so bugged me...

Yes, there is still time to vote in Tale of the Week 255, for those who haven't voted yet.

I look forward to your next chapter, m_1512.

It looks like we will be able to run the Monthly Creative Writing Competition again, fairly soon. I wonder if more people with stories in the Creative Writing section would like to enter the MCWC XIV.

Any feedback on covering plot holes? I've found that to be my Achilles heel many times.

Hello, I'm new to this corner of the forum, if you don't take into account some lurking.

I've just submited my creative writing project to the competition's thread. It's still in an "embryonic" stage in terms of story progression, but I figured I'd help give the competition a kick-start.

That said, I have a question: are we allowed to update our work during the voting stage?

Erm, my question was actually on plot holes. What are your opinions on it?

Welcome to the Writers' Study, Admiral Van Tromp! Shankbot is, of course, right - you can update your creative writing project during the voting stage. I'm planning to run voting for the Monthly Creative Writing Competition either at the end of December or the beginning of January, so there is still time for more creative writers to enter the MCWC, if you would like to. (If we can reach six submissions, then we can run a 'full' competition. When that happens, the top three (rather than two) writers receive Writers' Study competition points; also, the winners receive more points in a full competition).

m_1512 asked about how to deal with plot holes. I have a few ideas. Suppose, for example, a character has contradicted something which they said earlier (two chapters ago, he said that the army always has horsemen with spears on its left flank, in the latest chapter the same character said that the army always has spear infantry on its left flank). You could deal with this in different ways, including the examples below. As I see it, each of the following methods creates extra opportunities for story-telling:-

    - Unreliable Narrator: sometimes, this character makes mistakes. What other mistakes has this character made and why do they make them (are they like Julius Caesar, writing a book to present their own achievements in the best way possible, are they hiding some terrible secret or are they confused and forgetful?)

    - New Development: during the harsh winter, the army would have starved if they hadn't eaten anything they could get (including the horses). If there are other cavalry in the army, then they acquired horses in the spring, but the poor spearmen on the left flank had low priority. (Will the spearmen resent their new status, having to walk while other ride? Will the army commander regret not giving them horses, whey cannot reach a crucial location in a battle in time?)

    - New Understanding: the men on the left flank use horses to reach a crucial part of the battle quickly and then dismount to fight on foot. (You could think of an explanation for this. Perhaps they are not skilled horsemen and they will learn to fight on horseback in time? Perhaps, in their culture, there is special honour in fighting on foot?)
