Information Thread for Potential Dwarven Units
The Dwarf people as a whole are sturdy and strong, brilliant craftsmen and excellent warriors, but above all they prize themselves on their loyalty to each other and to those they are indebted to. This strong bond of kinship has ensured that the Dwarfs are considered amongst the most united races in the face of the world. They are known far and wide as the greatest miners and tunnelers in the world, the ageless halls of Karaz-a-karak are but one gigantic example of how huge their works can become. As expected, the Dwarfs are highly proficient smiths and craftsmen, capable of producing works far more beautiful than the Elven metalworkers in far Ulthuan and hundreds of times more valuable than the trinkets of Men. Proud, honorable and enduring, it is said that the Dwarfs shall weather the horrors and misery of this world until its final bitter end.

The Skrataz will sometimes find themselves in the Throng of Barak Varr, normally when it is in their interest or when they are given no choice."

    Slayers
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Brotherhood of Grimnir = From the Slayer Army list for Storm of Chaos, from what I can tell they’re another type of slayer unit, one that is a bit more elite than Troll Slayers, who have Ward saves because of the warpaint they wear.
    https://www.scribd.com/doc/175292173/Wfb-Storm-of-Chaos

Daemon Slayers = The greatest slayers of all, they wield great weapons and there are very few of them around, perhaps only a handful in a unit? Often these experienced slayers are followed by young slayers hoping to learn from their example and die gloriously. They specialise in slaying daemons, but being good at killing them tends to make you extremely good at killing everything else.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Dwarf_Slayer

Dragon Slayers = Next to Daemon Slayers they’re the greatest, they too wield great axes but this time against Dragons rather than Daemons. They also get a following of younger slayers but these typically are smaller in size than the groups that follow Daemon Slayers. No doubt Dragon Slayers would have all kinds of scars and burns.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Dwarf_Slayer

Giant Slayers = Slayers that specialise in slaying Giants, these wield two axes. Can also wield; Great Weapons, Shields, Light Armour

Skaven Slayers = Mentioned in a quote in the link below, I’d assume they’d be excellent at killing Skaven.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wi...the_Grey_Seers

Slayer Doomseekers = Another unit from the Slayer Army list for Storm of Chaos, they appear to be similar to the Dwarf Fanatics, whirling axes on chains at the enemy, they’re unbreakable and reckless, but not prone to falling over or killing themselves.
    https://www.scribd.com/doc/175292173/Wfb-Storm-of-Chaos

Slayer Pirates = A mercenary unit that’s been around for a long time, they’re from a dwarf trading ship that lost its precious cargo of ale, so decided to turn slayer. They don’t wield axes but dual pistols. Though they appear to be a one off unit in the lore, there is potential there for naval versions of the slayers, you could have Helldrake Slayers or Kharibdyss Slayers, etc. Ones where they specialise in fighting sea monsters.
    https://www.scribd.com/doc/223222529/Citadel-Journal-44

Troll Slayers = Young slayers that specialise in slaying Trolls, they wield two single hand axes. Also listed on page 107 in the 3rd edition. Can also wield; Great Weapons, Shields, Light Armour

    https://i.imgur.com/fhfNHX9.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

    https://i.imgur.com/ehitViM.png Dreadfleet Rulebook

Breaker Cannon = "The field cannon is the standard Dwarf artillery piece. A lighter version was developed for naval use by the engineers of Barak Varr, and is known as the breaker cannon. There are isolated reports of Dwarf marines dismounting breaker cannon from their ships and setting them in improvised gun-carriages to use in land battles, but this is not a common practice."
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Breaker_Cannon

    Cannon = A dwarf cannon
    https://i.imgur.com/saPqxbQ.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

Deathroller = "The Deathroller’s continuing popularity is no doubt due to the fact that it’s so easily improvised from the rollers found at the more sophisticated and well-kept grass-laid stadiums. Referees have done their best to keep Deathrollers off the playing field, and quite a few have ended up as flat as a pancake as a result!"
    https://i.ebayimg.com/thumbs/images/...KDq/s-l225.jpg
    https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-CA/Dwarf-Deathroller

Dirigible = It drifts above the waves, its runic semaphore flickering in the seas below
    https://i.imgur.com/D7ZZDCb.png Dreadfleet Rulebook

Earth Borer Mining Drill = "The Earth Borer is a six-wheeled, steam-powered vehicle with front and side armour to protect the machine and its operator from flying debris. A finely polished sheet of clear quartz is mounted at the front of the drill, so that the operator can see the drill bit and rock face ahead. The Bhlak and Dekkur drill bit is made of the hardest steel, studded with diamonds. It is powered by one of the machine's two steam engines; the other powers the wheels. The Earth Borer consumes a lot of fuel, and it is only used on exceedingly hard rock (such as granite), or when a tunnel must be constructed quickly."

Goblin Hewer = Repeater Axe Throwing Machine!
    https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...64fdec9b32.jpg

    https://i.imgur.com/zbERMf5.png 3rd Ed. Armies Book

"Golem on Wheels" = I have no idea what it is called, what it's function is or anything. It appears to be a wheeled golem just under the zeppelin in the image link. It could be an extravagant Anvil of Doom for all I know. But it's a potential unit none-the-less.
    https://i.imgur.com/ptvDJZg.jpg

Grudgebringer = A stone throwing catapult
    https://i.imgur.com/saPqxbQ.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

Leadbelcher Organ Gun = Uncertain if this is the standard or not for Organ Guns, but the Leadbelcher was made with 3 bombards and a howitzer in its design. Potentially it is a rare variant of the traditional Organ Gun.

Thunderbarge = The Dwarf Thunderbarge class of warship hasn’t quite been perfected yet, but that doesn’t stop a few intrepid dwarf engineers from taking to the skies. It can drop bombs, has Organ Cannons and is very dangerous… to both the enemy and the dwarfs on the vessal. If it blows, it’ll blow up big time!

Thunder Cannon = "The largest of the Dwarf guns, the thunder cannon is so big that it cannot travel with an army in the field. Thunder cannon are mounted in gun emplacements defending a Dwarfhold, usually equipped with hydraulic machinery to control aim and elevation."

Its barrels are narrower, firing a ball less than an inch in diameter, but up to ten can be mounted on the same frame. The volley gun can be operated by a crew of one, but reload times are doubled. It can only be moved by one person if it is mounted on a wheeled frame, and even then movement rates are halved."

    Siege Train
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
"The only realistic solution to breaking massive fortifications is to employ a formidable siege train which includes siege engines of gigantic proportions capable of smashing down the strongest walls, gates and towers quickly. These machines are so huge that they cannot easily be constructed in the field. Instead, they must be manufactured in advance, often in pre-fabricated sections which can be transported in wagons, on ships, or stored until needed in fortresses."

The Giant Battering Ram = "The giant battering ram is cut from the tallest and strongest tree in the realm and shod with a massive iron or bronze head. Hundreds of men are needed to pull the ropes that swing the ram to strike a gate or fortress wall. One blow will smash great oak doors like matchwood or crumbles masonry into powder, collapsing towers and walls like sand castles. https://i.imgur.com/SZ5PSHZ.png White Dwarf 155

The Great Cannon = "The great cannon is a cannon so big that the ruler will have to make special measures to get hold of enough metal to make it. All the bells in the realm or all the cannons of the fleet may have to be melted down to provide enough bronze to cast a single great cannon. It is so monstrous that hundreds of oxen are required to pull it."
    https://i.imgur.com/SZ5PSHZ.png White Dwarf 155

The Monstrous Stone Thrower = "This is a catapult operated by a massive counterweight which swings a long shaft and hurls a boulder a very great distance. The huge boulder will smash any ramparts that it strikes. The catapult is made of thick timbers to withstand the stress and strain, but the parts can be transported individually on wagons and are lashed togehter into a catapult in the siege lines."
    https://i.imgur.com/SZ5PSHZ.png White Dwarf 155

The Siege Tower = "Hundreds of wagons are required to carry the pre-fabricated timbers that make up the siege tower, and when these are put together the siege tower will be raised higher than any known wall. Bolt throwers shoot out of port holes on each of its many levels. A drawbridge or spiked corvus is ready on the top of the tower to be dropped on the enemy battlements allowing attackers to swarm across, constantly reinforced by a steam stream of soldiers."

    Bound Monsters
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Shard Dragon = Shard Dragons are not ‘true dragons’ as such, but the devolved remains of some draconic offshoot that migrated into the dark heart of the world. Untold centuries in lightless umbra have filled them with malign power and distorted their forms, some now venomous enough that they burn the very rock beneath them, while others are able to exhale to vaporous essence of terror to slay their prey. It was the Dwarfs that first returned these creatures to the light of the sun, having learned to bind Shard Dragons with powerful runic collars and turning them upon their foes to rend and tear.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Rune Guardians = "The first Rune Guardians were built millennia ago, when the first Dwarf strongholds began to fall to Goblin forces. Realising they would be forced to leave the tombs of their honoured ancestors unguarded, the greatest Runesmiths of the time collaborated with the Engineers Guild to create tireless sentries that could be left behind. That at one time they could create such marvels is a source of both great pride and great sorrow for the Dwarfs. It would seem that the knowledge of the Master Rune of Waking is lost to the Runesmiths of today, and the schematics needed to construct one are nowhere to be found."

Aldrik Welwork’s Gun Blossom = ”Before he abandoned his laboratory, Aldrik activated his deadly invention, the Gun Blossom. https://web.archive.org/web/20081218...er/default.htm

Axes of Norr = The Axes of Norr ironbreakers regiment were the most famous of the surviving Norgrimlings clan. As veteran ironbreakers, they were well used to long shifts guarding vital passageways deep underground. They showed so much confidence in their unit that the back ranks often grabbed brief naps while standing upright, locked in place by tight tunnel confines and their own brethren.

Bugman’s Beer Wagon = Josef Bugman is the most famous dwarf master brewer of all time. To a dwarf the art of brewing is a skill as worthy as that of an artisan. All dwarves drink vast quantities of ale and enjoy nothing better than a raucous evening singing and drinking. This is a typical drinking cart, but the contents of Bugman’s brew will stir a dwarf’s emotions, and will earn their uncontrollable wrath should the wagon be destroyed. It’s from Citadel Journal.

Gotrek and Felix = Gotrek Gurnisson, a dwarf Slayer, and Felix Jaeger, his human chronicler, are a duo of warriors traveling throughout the length and breath of the Old World, battling Dark Forces and stopping complots in Gotrek's quest for a heroic death against a terrible foe.

Gromdal's Orcbanes = Gromdal Orcbane's crossbow regiment provide excellent support for any unit in the field. Dwarfs are not physically suited to using ordinary bows, so they use powerful crossbows instead. Although these are ranged weapsons, this unit is still effective in close combat as they eagerly bash away with the weapon's fearsome studded metal butt.

Grudgesolver = A cannon that was part of “Thunder Battery” during the End Times event, led by Gurdok Granitehelm.

Hellor Detonation Device = The Hellor's sturdy steam-driven tracks plow through all intervening terrain and obstacles with implacable, clockwork-guided purpose. The armoured hull is reinforced to repel nearly all types of standard missile fire. Upon reaching its target, the Dwarf operator yanks a length of chain which extended behind the device as it travels.
    https://web.archive.org/web/20070228...ntions/ty2.htm

Ironclads = Few of the Ironclads were talkative fellows, preferring to watch and listen while more garrulous dwarfs filled the silence with speech or song. There they stood, waiting wordlessly for the battle to come, seemingly unconcerned whether any of their fellows would join their shield wall.

    http://kippersmelee.ca/wp-content/up...ogs-of-War.pdf

Order of Guardians = Like Templars, witch-hunters are thought by many to be a purely human phenomenon. In fact, the cult of the Ancestor God Gazul founded the Order of Guardians in 1681 I.C., following the Night of the Restless Dead, predating several human orders of witch-hunters. The Order of Guardians distinguished themselves in the Wizards' War which raged across the empire from 1979 through to 1991, and in the various campaigns against the Vampire Counts of Sylvania, beginning in 2010 I.C. This Dwarf witch-hunter order embodies the virtues of determined pursuit against the foul despoilers of the dead and the immediate dispensing of justice.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wi...r_of_Guardians

Order of the Stone Wall = Although templars may seem like a uniquely human concept, the cults of several Dwarf deities have warrior orders associated with them; the most notable example of this is the relationship between the Slayers and the cult of Grimnir, but it is by no means the only one. The Dwarf Order of the Stone Wall is associated with the cult of Grungni, and its members see themselves as the ultimate guardians of the Dwarf race. Founded during the first coming of Chaos (-4500 I.C.), the order embodies the virtues of steadfastness and determination, regardless of the odds.

Skalli Rudderson’s Multi-Seater Gyrocopter = ”While the Gyrocopter is an unparalleled engineering marvel, some Dwarfs just can't keep themselves from tinkering with it. Not satisfied with the carrying capacity and offensive capabilities of your standard Gyrocopter, Skalli has spend the last 20 years perfecting his Multi-Seater. The Multi-Seater has many useful purposes. It can be used to rescue stranded Dwarfs from precarious positions, or it can be used to airdrop a few Rangers into key positions. It is ideal for getting to and grabbing objectives quickly. Now the Steam Gun is joined by a single-shot Dragon Gun that can puncture even the hardest of hides.”
    https://web.archive.org/web/20070226...tions/ken2.htm

Sons of Kazakrendum = Many had found exactly such a demise, and the others were certain that their own absolution could not be far off. For those who had taken the slayer oath, those days were undoubtedly the Kazakrendum - the Days of Warring Doom. Not one amongst them wished to face the end without an axe in his hand and a bellyful of ale (preferably Bugman's XXXXXX).
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wi...of_Kazakrendum

Steamhammer's Thwopter Flying Machines = "Torin 'Steamhammer' Algenonsonn stands on a large wooden chest partially obscuring a massive drawing board scrawled on with arcane symbols. Stoneplaits = The Stoneplaits are an elite Dwarf regiment of Longbeards. The Book of Battalions - Page 8

Torston Treehaka's Sea Axes = It is not unheard for there to be Dwarf mercenaries in the service of foreign princes. Many of these mercenary bands come from Barak Varr itself, the best known of them being the Company of Torston Treehaka. "Torston and his lads are debt collectors by trade and make a living pursuing merchants who renege on deals. They will also serve as mercenaries when circumstances demand. Torston's clan was originally from Karak Norn, but was exiled following an incident in Athel Loren. Although he will not speak of it, he holds a grudge as only a Dwarf can."

Kadrim’s Upchucker = A fearsome war machine, the Upchuckers presence on the battlefield is sure to strike fear and loathing into your enemies hearts.
    https://i.imgur.com/7c0PGfX.png White Dwarf 97

Olrik’s Mighty Mashers = Led by Olrik, these fearsome fanatics goad themselves into a frenzy and then launch into battle with glazed eyes and whirling blades
    https://i.imgur.com/Uejp5Jo.png White Dwarf 97

Tab-asco’s Burners = The Burners prepare themselves for battle by drinking a strange red liquid, the formula for which is a jealously guarded secret. The potent brew transforms them into snarling, incoherent, red faced maniacs - feared by friend and foe alike
    https://i.imgur.com/7c0PGfX.png White Dwarf 97

Tarquin’s Twangies = The Twangies are often sneered at by the rest of the army because of their name and somewhat foppish sense of dress - but sneers dry up when they demonstrate their ability to lay down a withering hail of quarrels.

    Karak Azul
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Bouldergoats = These well-seasoned dwarf rangers had a wide-ranging and varied reputation amongst those of Karak Azul. They were mountain-scalers extraordinaire. Some say this was where their unit name originated, for they could all climb cliffs and tumbled rock like bouldergoats – the famed hairy beasts that roamed the shear-sided peaks of the Worlds Edge Mountains.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Bouldergoats

Brotherhood of the Anvil = These warriors hailed from Karak Azul and were tasked with carrying and protecting the treasured anvil of doom used by Thorek Ironbrow. They bore the anvil symbol on shield and banner.

Iron Guard = This unit gained much fame for its bold action during the Battle of Deep Mine, when they defeated the skaven, following them back to their nest-lair, which they destroyed with cinderblast charges. For their unit symbol they bore the anvil above the mountain – the symbol of Karak Azul itself.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Iron_Guard

Mountain Bolt Squadron = Originally out of Zhufbar, Orikk joined Karak Azul as part of their gyrocopter fighter wing. Still considered ‘new-fangled’, the offensive capabilities of the gyrocopter were often overlooked; instead, the flying machines were typically assigned messenger duties. Orikk, a hot-blooded young pilot, however, was eager to prove the worth of his machine.

Sternbeard Clan = Bearing shields marked with the crossed hammers of their clan, the warriors of the Sternbeards had a long and proud history. They had fought to defend Karak Azul on many occasions, and were accompanied by the hold's Keeper of the Gate, Flint Fraybeard.

In truth, they would rather have been deep underground, using their extraordinary gift for smelling out rich veins of gold. Expert tunnelers, the Goldseekers carried with them especially potent blasting charges – useful for bursting through both stubborn rock formations and the range of foes they encountered along Peak Pass.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Goldseekers

The dwarfs lost count of how many times the Thunderfist Squadron dropped out of the skies to deliver their deadly payload, sweeping Peak Pass clear in a barrage of booming explosions.

    Karaz-a-Karak
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Drakewardens = The runes struck into their gromril armour allowed the Drakewardens to withstand searing heat. Such guards proved especially valuable against the skaven. Warpfire thrower teams expected nothing to survive the unnatural blaze of their devious weapons, but the Drakewardens had taught many of them the errors of their ways.
    http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Drakewardens

Everguard = To be named a hammerer of any hold was to be counted amongst the best of all dwarf warriors. To be named the Everguard - the High King's personal bodyguard - was to join the most elite of all dwarf formations. In a ritual that dated back to the first High King, Snorri Whitebeard, the Everguard were gigted with the finest crafted runic hammers from the armoury of Karaz-a-Karak. Each of those weighty war-mallets could crack rock to powder, making the kingsguard even more formidable.

    Special and Named Characters

Here will be contained a full list of every possible Legendary Lord or Legendary Hero or Champion that I could find for the Dwarfs, excluding those who are long dead. I have split them into different categories for each Kindred or Realm and whether they suit being Lords, Heroes, or Champions, so it is easier to know which they are best suited to being added to, if someone wished to add them to the game. Also, there are a fair number that I couldn't place into one territory or other, so I guess they'd be free to put wherever someone wanted. Without further ado, here we go, bear in mind it is a work in progress.

    The High Kingdom of Karaz-a-Karak
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Faction Leader
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
High King Thorgrim Grudgebringer = It is Thorgrim’s avowed wish to avenge every single entry contained in that voluminous tome — an impossible task if he should live a thousand lifetimes. Yet such was his resolve that he has already helped to rejuvenate the whole of the Karaz Ankor. Tales of his deeds, and the long list of grudges already struck out, fill his grim warriors with a feeling that the Dwarfs have long done without: hope.

    Lords
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Kazgar the Fearless = "Kazgar the Fearless, a Runesmith and notable warrior, believed this to be the last resting place of Grimdal Runescar. He decided to lead an expedition to recover the Great Hammer of Wrath which, he reasoned, would undoubtedly be buried with him in the mound. The expedition was given the blessing of the King of Karaz and it was decided to send two other Champions and a force of Dwarf troops to help Kazgar."
    https://i.imgur.com/l8190WH.png White Dwarf 153

Kragg the Grimm = Is perhaps the oldest Dwarf in the world, known far and wide as one of the best and wisest Runelords that ever existed. Creator of the Master Rune, Kragg has since settled down and currently resides in the ancient capital of Karaz-a-Karak.

Garag the Devout = "It was also decided, against the king's better judgement, to take along a priest of Valaya, who volunteered to come in order to purify the tomb of Grimdal, possibly even to recover his relics for burial among his ancestors. The priest was called Garag the Devout."
    https://i.imgur.com/l8190WH.png White Dwarf 153

Harok Anvilfist = He is usually the first to spot individuals approaching the Dwarf kingdom's borders. Harok will do a few flybys – some of which might be rather daring, as if to impress the travelers with Dwarf prowess – to determine if the unidentified group is friendly or not. If satisfied that they present no danger, Harok will call down to the intruders and demand to know their names and business. Should he be fired upon or threatened in any way, Harok will toss down a bomb or two before heading toward one of the watchtowers to alert the garrison there of the forthcoming danger.

    Champions

Dangar, Mining Overseer = A mining overseer in Karaz-a-Karak.

Grimli 'Blacktooth' Skrundigor = A beardling, last of his line, the 17th generation cursed as an Oathbreaker because of an ancestor who "fled" from danger causing the death of a Dwarf Princess called Frammi Sunlocks. Turns out that he didn't flee, he was so enraged at her death that he charged through a door killing goblins for as long as he could until he died, but people mistakenly viewed him as fleeing. Grimli recovers his ancestors hammer from the depths of Karak Azgal and restores his honour.
Tales of the Old World Short Story: Ancestral Honour

Helgrind Bad-Axe = "The expedition was given the blessing of the king of Karaz and it was decided to send two other Champions and a force of Dwarf troops to help Kazgar. These were to be Helgrind Bad-Axe and Thord Trollbiter, a renowned Troll Slayer. Both had a reputation for extreme savagery and the king was somewhat relieved to get them out of the kingdom!"

Despite being a white-bearded prince of 500 years, Thuringar is a youngling compared to most Dwarf kings. He is a decisive leader who aims to wipe out the greenskins threatening his hold and eradicate the Skaven from its Underdeep. Many Longbeards disdainfully regard him as a risk-taker, but his aggressive tactics have allowed Karak Azgaraz to seize the initiative from the greenskins.

Engineer Hurtub Tyrlok = ”The eccentric Dwarf Engineer Hurtub Tyrlok began his Slayer armour innocently enough as a means to destroy the vicious wildlife that inhabit the mountains of the Old World. After a few too many testing accidents Hurtub got a flash of inspiration. Inspired by the durability and ferocity of Dwarf Slayers, the Mark VII armour can fend off damage that an unprotected Dwarf would never survive. Like its namesake, the Slayer Armour's offensive capabilities are also quite impressive.”

Engineer Skalli Rudderson = ”While the Gyrocopter is an unparalleled engineering marvel, some Dwarfs just can't keep themselves from tinkering with it. http://web.archive.org/web/200303061...ibrightaxe.htm

Snorri Nosebiter = Despite of perhaps because of his lack of intelligence Snorri is jovial and friendly, in contrast with Gotrek who is grim and mistrusts most people. He respects Felix because of his position as Gotrek's rememberer and considers him a friend. Like Gotrek he is fearless in the face of danger and actively seeks it out to fulfil his vow to find his doom in battle, and is gleeful at the prospect of any fight. Also like Gotrek he is a heavy drinker and the pair often compete in drinking contests. http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wi..._Hasselfriesan

Tarthan Trollbaiter = ”Tarthan is a fanatical follower of Barnok and her hatred of Goblinoids knowns no bounds. She uses Orc’s blood to spike her hair. Some of her troops think this is a teeny bit tasteless, but none would dare to bring it up in conversation!”

Gottri Hammerfist = Gottri is focused; he doesn’t want to waste any time talking about trivial matters; instead, he concentrates on the hunt for and fight against Chaos. He treats people purely as sources of information and possible allies in the battle; he has no concern for their feelings. Gottri is also quite insane. Varek Varigsson = A young Dwarf and nephew to Borek Forkbeard, Gotrek and Felix first encountered Varek when he accompanied Snorri Nosebiter to the inn where they were to rendezvous. Varek fought alongside Felix during the Battle of the Lonely Tower, hurling explosive bombs into the skaven ranks with fearless glee. He journeyed with the others into the Chaos Wastes, treating the expedition like an exciting adventure and apparently uncaring of the extreme danger they faced. Along with Snorri, Gotrek and Felix, Varek descended into the ruins of Karag Dum and fought in the battle of the throne room against the beastmen led by the Bloodthirster, using a gattling gun lent to him by Malakai Makaisson. Magical Weapons, Armour, Amulets, Scrolls and Other Items

This section deals in those magical items that can be used by this faction. This is by no means a full list, I doubt I'll ever get that, but it will provide modders with information if they wish to add new magical weapons, armour and items into the game to be used.

    Common Magic Items

Bugman’s XXXXXX = ”A very rare beverage that is almost considered sacred by Brewmasters. Never as potent as it was, Bugman’s original XXXXXX puts this new batch to shame but it is still a fine brew. One draught of Bugman’s XXXXXX will add +3 to a Brewmaster’s strength.”

Lycanthropic Reserve = ”Brewed with the blood of the Ulfwerener this beer is a deep black in colour and leaves a bitter but not wholly unsatisfying taste in the mouth. https://www.scribd.com/doc/299384217/Deathblow-2of3

Nordic Original = ”Said to hail from the icy lands of Norsca and first brewed by the Norse Dwarfs of the northern hold of Kraka Drak this brew is chilled to perfection but bears the bite of the Northern winds and the fiery temperament of the Norse. As it is consumed the Dwarf screws up his face and grits his teeth due to the extreme potency. When the last drop goes down, froth begins to bubble on the dwarfs lips and he goes totally beserk.”
    https://www.scribd.com/doc/299384217/Deathblow-2of3

    https://www.scribd.com/doc/299384217/Deathblow-2of3

Volcanus Hellfire = ”A heady brew with a much longer fermentation and run off period than most brews. Its actual brewing process is something of a secret but some say it is a magical concoction enhanced with the aid of Runesmiths who have a passion for brewing. When a dwarf drinks this fiery brew there is a sudden loud gurgling heard in the pit of his stomach, which builds up to a massive crescendo when the dwarf finally emits a tremendous belch and flames burst forth from his mouth!”

Valaya's Rune is only ever inscribed during rituals in the temple of Valaya in Karaz-a-Karak."

    Anvil of Doom
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Rune of Doom = "When this rune is struck, the air grows chill and the skies turn dark. Ghostly forms of ancient warriors appear amidst the Dwarfs on the battlefield, bolstering their ranks and their courage. These are not ghosts as such, but a manifestation of the Dwarfs' own grim and doom-laden nature. Their anger at the loss of their mighty civilisation and the desecration of their Holds fills them with a righteous fury that is terrible to behind, and their normally grim faces are set with an expression of black vengeance."

Blade of Last Resort = ”This sword has ever had a twisted sense of humour, seeking out overmatched heroes and aiding them against a chosen foe. However, the Blade of Last Resort draws its strength from a victor’s glorious lifeblood; those that best an opponent with its aid themselves have scant moments to live.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WhndVE0VklZZDA Storm of Magic

Dodecahedron of Continental Drift = ”Said to have been left behind by the Old Ones, this peculiar object can be used to remake the world. Each alteration to the Dodecahedron’s external matrix is reflected on the land around the user. Its ill-considered use can easily prove catastrophic…”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WhndVE0VklZZDA Storm of Magic

Fozzrik’s Floating Fortress = ”Though Fozzrik’s magical aptitude led him to become a wizard, he never lost his love for architecture. Many of the Old World’s cities have been built around immaculate structures that Fozzrik created from stone and sorcery, but more prized by far are his floating fortresses - buildings that move under their own power and sprout defences to repel intruders.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WhndVE0VklZZDA Storm of Magic

Woodwaker’s Wand = ”Once upon a time, all the woods in the world were linked. Some say this great forest was alive, in a curious sort of way, and that every tree that now grows retains a portion of its vigour and intelligence just waiting to be revived.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WhndVE0VklZZDA Storm of Magic

Living Deadwood Staff = ”Arboreonecromancy is a little-practiced branch of wizardry - any mystic crazed enough to attempt it normally transfers his attentions back to raising zombies and skeletons, rather than undead trees. However, legends tell of the Archmage Sycamo, ‘The Daemon Carpenter of Estalia’, who not only perfected a method of reanimating trees from their residual elements, but also filling them with astounding vigour. Much of Sycamo’s work has, fortunately, been lost to the intervening aeons, but the Living Deadwood Staff never stays missing for long…”

Giantkin Helm = ”After constantly being told ‘We expect big things from you’ by his Elector Count father, Heinrich von Roth spent much of the family fortune commissioning an artefact that would help him achieve greatness. Alas, he was to learn that when dealing with wizards, precision of diction is just as important as largesse of payment.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WhndVE0VklZZDA Storm of Magic

Windcatcher Prism = ”This peculiar bauble was crafted long ago, its purpose very much tied to storms of magic. Once a particular Wind of Magic rises to a certain cataclysmic level, the Windcatcher Prism absorbs and rechannels a portion of its power, bestowing the bearer - and his immediate allies - with an avataric aspect of the ascendant Wind of Magic.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WhndVE0VklZZDA Storm of Magic

Paranoth’s Piquet Fence = ”Paranoth was a famous travelling mage, who trod every road ‘twixt Cathay and Naggarond. https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...WhndVE0VklZZDA Storm of Magic

Rockcharmer’s Flute = ”Androgast Gildheim was the first man in the Empire to master this granite flute, but its origins lie hidden in the mists of time. Some say that the Rockcharmer’s Flute was used to destroy the old Dwarfen realms, others that it sank the fabled realm of Seidon. However, the most popular tale concerns a drunken Halfling, the Rockcharmer’s Flute, a jug of lamp oil, a plate of sausages and the accidental creation of the Grey Mountains.”

Wyssan’s Weighted Dice = ”This set of weighted dice is one amongst many forged by Arctovian Wyssan over the course of a long and (unsurprisingly) successful wagering career. At the bearer’s command, these skull-marked cubes play havoc with the laws of causality; turning certainty into bleak misfortune.”

Arabyan Puzzlebox = ”This elegantly crafted container houses many hundreds of glittering gemstones, each with the power to harness the Winds of Magic if used in the correct manner. Alas, the user can never truly be sure that the compartment he has opened will contain the gems he needed.”

Black Book of Ibn Naggazar = ”Ibn Naggazar was a brilliant, if somewhat maniacal, Arabyan sorcerer. Whilst it is unknown whether his madness sprang from isolation, too many attempts at creating intoxicating ‘elixirs’ or the honeyed promises of whispering Daemons, there can be no doubt that he was utterly insane. No rational wizard would create a book inked on the skin of his closest family, much less constantly follow its advice.”

    Lore Information Regarding the Dwarfs

When a series is being continuously updated for a quarter of a century there is bound to be a massive amount of lore that has been created for it. This is an attempt to collate important snippets of lore that I have found during my research into units. I am presenting these in note form rather than in quote form due to the sheer amount of information that is potentially able to be displayed here, but I hope that it will prove useful or interesting to you regardless.

    General Information
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - Dwarfs are not a numerous people, they multiply slowly.
    - They're very clannish and live in extended family communities.
    - They're proud and often very short tempered.
    - Dwarf history relates many occasions when dwarfish indignation at some petty slight.

https://i.imgur.com/mNCxP8U.png Warhammer 1st Edition Forces of Fantasy

    - Even the merest whiff of money does odd things to a dwarf, and is enough to stir a slayer away from his doom, even if just for a little while
    Gotrek & Felix: Berthold’s Beard

    - The dwarfs have always made their homes beneath the mountains.
    - The wealth of the dwarfs is legendary, however their wealth has diminished greatly since the peak of their empire.
    - They are a proud and defiant people, as grim as the mountains.
    - They are immensely strong and resilient, wide in girth with thick hands and broad feet.
    - Unless slain in battle a dwarf can live to a very great age.
    - The oldest dwarfs have silver beards many yards long. These are wrapped around them and can still trail behind them.
    - Dwarf culture greatly respects age, ancient workmanship is treasured and a weapon may be reforged time and time again so that the iron is the same as that wielded a thousand years earlier.
    - Hoarding wealth is a passion for dwarfs.
    - They're uncannily good at making small, intricate items and take immense pride in their work, whatever their work is.
    - Dwarfs hate to see rough and shoddy work.
    - If a dwarf makes a promise he will remember and keep it. If it was made by his ancestors he will keep it. To break it would be a dishonour. A broken bond is bitterly remembered.
    - Great Eagles are friends of the Dwarfs as both races have a hatred of greenskins and will trade information about them.

    Warhammer: Battle Bestiary https://i.imgur.com/DCi17JU.png
    Warhammer: Battle Bestiary https://i.imgur.com/8zSJjk1.png

    - Certain Dwarf legends recall a past age when the Dwarfs and Eagles had dealings, but nowadays few are seen and they avoid the intelligent races.
    https://i.imgur.com/OxwuzbV.png Warhammer 3rd Edition Rulebook

    - Dwarfs are an organised, disciplined people
    - Dwarfs are naturally suspicious of other races and generally untrusting, but they are very loyal to those they trust
    - Dwarfs are renowned for their loyalty, and those few animals they shelter or protect respect this
    - A dwarfs loyalty can extend beyond life itself, especially if a dwarf dies unavenged in battle

    https://i.imgur.com/aptUY2S.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

    - Of all the races, the dwarfs show the greatest aptitude for science and technology
    - Dwarfs have a love of regalia

    https://i.imgur.com/81EYpbj.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book
    https://i.imgur.com/2KzUc4q.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

    - Dwarf greed is legendary and they love wealth, loot and battle
    https://i.imgur.com/5CD9lV7.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

    - There are few magics which can force a dwarf into breaking his word. Once a dwarfs word is given, he will fulfil his promise or die.
    - For this reason it can be difficult to get a dwarf to commit to anything.
    - Dwarfs give very few promises.
    - Dwarfs know the honourable way to behave.
    - Dwarf sagas are full of situations where heroes found themselves trapped by thoughtless oaths into performing some unimportant task.
    - Theft is not considered dishonourable, yet its so rare that its almost unknown. This is because its dishonourable to lose an item, so the insult must be avenged.
    - Dwarf communities are peaceful places where doors are rarely unlocked.
    - Dwarfs like to surround themselves with beautiful objects.
    - Dwarf women don't have beards.
    - Dwarf women are rare. One in four births are female.
    - Though rare in human society, they are prominent in their own where they are leaders, organisers, and administrators.
    - Dwarfs are dwindling and they must replenish their numbers. The loss of a single fertile female is more significant than the loss of a dozen males.
    - Suggesting the females are merely "brood mares" is a terrible insult.
    - It's possible the use of kilts led to the popular myth of bearded women.
    - A dwarf views the world as a changeable place. In two hundred years of life a lot can happen.
    - To a dwarf only their reputation can outlast the effects of a disaster. A dwarf may lose everything he owns, but his reputation goes before him and can be the coin that regains what he lost.
    - Dwarfs only get mind-slammingly drunk once when young, after that they know their limits.
    - It's almost unheard of for a dwarf to wake up in the morning after drinking and regret the actions the night before.

    https://i.imgur.com/UpwF9yT.png White Dwarf 92

    - Dwarfs cultivate mushrooms for food.
    https://i.imgur.com/GmLJ5DG.png White Dwarf 125

    - Dwarf smiths are found in their own quarters in cities of the Empire, Bretonnia, Kislev and elsewhere.
    - Dwarfs have colonies in distant lands.
    - Three things lead to dwarf settlements in foreign lands; gold, honour or being refugees.
    - The lure of gold attracts dwarf artisans to human lands.
    - The dwarf code of honour forces into exile any dwarfs that have fallen out with their kinsmen, their lord or have fallen foul of some long-standing grudge.
    - Some of these exiles end up swelling the ranks of the Chaos Dwarfs.
    - Refugees from the many lost and fallen strongholds can be found in human lands.

    https://i.imgur.com/NevdNT0.png White Dwarf 152

    - Dwarf strongholds were once frequently attacked by dragons who were attracted by the smell of gold and gleam of treasure hoards.
    - A famous saga is Grimdal's Saga, that speaks of Grimdal and the Great Hammer of Wrath.
    - King Brand of Kazak-a-Karaz once sent expeditions to the far west to look for riches.
    - Grimdal Runescar, a fabled hero of old, vanished in the lands that would give rise to Bretonnia.
    - According to myth, Grimnir the fearless protected the Dwarf people on their ancient migration.
    - Grimnir fought Ice Giants, huge Trolls, Dragons and bands of marauding Orcs.
    - Grimnir represents the undaunted courage and fearlessness of the Dwarf race.
    - Trollslayers and Giantslayers venerate Grimnir in particular and paint his rune on their bare flesh.
    - Dwarfs are most vulnerable to magical attack.
    - In the remote past, young dwarfs were required to prove their worth by going into the wilds and returning with a pelt of a wild creature.
    - This skin was turned into a personal banner to demonstrate the dwarfs courage.
    - Dwarf strongholds try to recover the lost Rune weapons of their ancestors.
    - These treasures are lost everywhere from Kislev to the Chaos Wastes, the Greenskin lands to the farthest corners of the world.
    - Wherever Dwarfs seek their lost treasures, they meet resistance from those who covet these artefacts.
    - Dwarfs lack the sensitivity needed to perceive magical force. It does not flow through them, and they cannot comprehend its subtle shades.
    - Dwarfs are happier dealing with material things that they can work with their hands.
    - Dwarfs are less disturbed or corrupted by magic of their enemies.
    - There are no dwarf wizards.

    - Breaking an oath brings lasting dishonour to a family, including their descendants and ancestors.
    - No Dwarf would ever desert the throne.
    - There is only one recorded instance of a Thronebearer abandoning his lord, as recorded in the Great Book of Grudges.
    - Thise Thronebreaker was Forkhelm Stoutback, ever after known as Shiverback, who is said to have abandoned his Lord in the face of battle.
    - As a consequence, his entire family abandoned their ancestral home and wandered the Dark Lands never to return.
    - Their shame is not something Dwarfs ever talk about.

    https://i.imgur.com/Zq7M85l.png White Dwarf 160

    - Few Dwarfs become mercenary generals.
    - Any dwarf with qualities of a general will be utterly loyal to clan and ancestry.
    - Dwarf mercenary generals are likely to be outcasts for some reason, or cherishing some terrible grudge against their kin.
    - Payment of gold to sellswords and sharing plunder is something that would tear at the heart of any dwarf.

    https://i.imgur.com/RFpY9RH.png White Dwarf 234

    - Vampires find the blood of dwarves stale and distasteful, so they tend to leave them alone.
    - It is perhaps impossible for elves, dwarves or halflings to become Vampires.

Warhammer 2nd Edition RPG - Night’s Dark Masters

    - The dwarfs were the second race created (following the elves) by the Old Ones, their magic is not learned but intrinsic and instinctual.

    Norse Dwarfs
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - The Dwarven cult of Troll Slayers is more popular in the north than in the south. This is because the Norse Dwarfs are more unhinged than their southernly brethren.
    - The Norse Dwarfs form a distinct dwarven community different from their more southernly dwarven kin.
    - They have a great deal in common with the human Norse, enjoying drinking, fighting, brawling, more drinking, and so on.

    Guilds
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Engineering
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - It’s said the ingenuity of the Engineers Guild knows no bounds, there is no better example than the notorious Dwarf Firethrower.
    - This weapon is dreaded by all enemies, and even by a few of the dwarf kindred.
    - The firethrower consists of a copper-lined barrel, bound with iron hooped.
    - Every Dwarf engineer has his favourite firethrower mix, but sulphurous compounds and oil feature in most recipes.
    - The firethrower is a very dangerous weapon. It requires great care, and nerves of steel to prepare and fire it.
    - The first firethrower was rushed into production to root out the goblins from their caverns, but even today the Guild claim it is still in the experimental stages.
    - Firethrower teams tend to have high casualty rates.
    - The firethrower operators reputation for nonchalant bravery and contempt for danger is much admired in dwarf warrior society.
    - Many dwarfs believe the firethrower operators are crazy and addicted to the fumes from their chemicals.
    - Firethrowers are always stationed on the edge of the army’s encampment, sometimes separated from the main camp by a safe distance.

    Mining
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - Iron ore is the commonest ore found by Dwarf miners.
    - Dwarf lore speaks much of the hearts of mountains.
    - The heart of the mountain refers to metal mined from the very deepest places of a mountain.
    - These are the metals and gems found at the very core of the mountain and are believed to contain the essence of the mountain's magical power.

    https://i.imgur.com/hhj6pPi.png White Dwarf 153
    https://i.imgur.com/hwKDM1F.png White Dwarf 153

    - Dwarfs are ideally suited to be miners, their strength and endurance making them excellent wielders of pick and shovel.
    - They have an instinct for stone.
    - Collapses and other accidents are rare.
    - Some clans use boring machines, but they will never replace the skill of an experienced miner.
    - When dwarf holds go to war many clans will send their warriors to battle.
    - Miners are famous for their knowledge of underground tunnels.

    - The dwarfs once mined gold, silver, jewels, precious stone, marble, onyx and jade from the mountains. Those days are now gone.
    - Their cities double as stone strongholds.
    - There are many surviving dwarf strongholds in the Worlds Edge Mountains.

    Runes
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - Runes made of simple strokes are usually of great antiquity.
    - Some runes are too old to be attributed to any single runesmith.
    - The most ancient runes would have originally been carved into bone or wood, thus predating the dwarf use of metal.
    - Dwarfs invented runes to counter metal armour before they encountered elves or humans using such armour.
    - Some burial mounds have a Rune of Banishment to prevent wights from occupying them.
    - Some runes require a bond or promise to an ancestor or deity.
    - Trollslayers and Giantslayers venerate Grimnir in particular and paint his rune on their bare flesh.

    - Valaya has special powers of protection against magical attack.
    - Valaya's Rune is only inscribed during rituals in the temple of Valaya in Karaz-a-Karak.
    - The Rune of Might is especially favoured for inscribing on hammers made in Karak-a-Karaz.
    - If a rune is simple in form, then it tends to be more primitive and more ancient.
    - Runesmith Okri Two-Hoards earned his name because he had a hoard of treasure in two different strongholds.
    - Okri created the Rune of Fear to protect these hoards.

    - The greatest shrine to Grungni is found in Karak Azul, and it was here that an ancient Runesmith first created Grungni's Rune.
    - It's thanks to this rune that Karak Azul never fell to Greenskin invaders.
    - It is impossible for anyone to mimic the Runesmith's work unless he chooses to reveal it to them.
    - Much rune lore was lost with the fall of the Dwarf strongholds in the Goblin wars.
    - Many runesmiths fled taking their secrets with them, many others were slain and their secrets perished when they died.
    - Ancient secrets of the runesmiths have been passed down by word of mouth from the time of the Ancestors.
    - Each runesmith adopts as a son his most talented apprentice whom he teaches the ancient lore.
    - Upon the death of his master, the apprentice adds his masters name to his own.
    - Runesmiths rarely write down their lore. In times of severe danger, they may imprint their knowledge into stone or metal.
    - Runesmiths devote years of their lives to the search for ancient secrets which have been lost since the Age of Darkness.
    - A handful of the most ancient and venerable runesmiths are still living and working in dwarf strongholds.
    - These remaining runesmiths are centuries old, and it is they who know the deepest and greatest secrets.
    - Among dwarfs they are respected as much as living ancestors, and their names and work are renowned far and wide.
    - Any weapon wrought by them is treated as though it was the last of its kind.
    - The dwarf language is written in runes.
    - Many runes are capable of binding magic because of their shape and the incantations recited as they are inscribed.
    - Some runes fade over time. The greatest runes are eternal.

    Famous Runemasters
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Alaric the Mad
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - A century in the making, the Runefangs were gifted to each of the Empire's Elector Counts.
    - Some say that the century Alaric spent toiling at his forge drove the Runesmith to obsession and paranoia.
    - His peers considered the Runefangs Alaric's greatest achievement, but the Runesmith himself refused to accept that he had reached the height of his art.
    - Alaric sought a new rune, and in time, found a variation on the Rune of Kingship — the Rune of Ages.
    - This Rune would not only retain and distill the wisdom of each of its wearers, passing it on to those who followed, but give the bearer control of their very destiny.
    - Any who wore it would become master of his fate, and that of his entire race.
    - Alaric found that no matter what material he set the Rune of Ages upon, it would shatter as the last blow was struck. Stone, iron, Gromril, dragon scales — all proved too weak to contain the mighty energies of his new Master Rune.
    - He set out upon a great quest to find a substance strong enough to bear the rune's awesome power.
    - For decades, Alaric wandered the dark roads of the Old World, through its mountains and forests.
    - Nowhere could he locate the material he sought, and as time went on, he became more and more obsessed, leading Dwarfs and Men to give him a new name: Alaric the Mad.
    - While passing along what is now the Old Forest Road (at that time it was little more than a well-trod woodland path), Alaric was ambushed by a band of Skaven.
    - Though now aged and stooped, Alaric was a veteran of many battles and dispatched the vile Ratmen with ease.
    - From nearby, he felt the presence of some unknown but incredibly powerful ore.
    - He followed his uncanny instinct and, deep beneath the knotted roots of a twisted oak, found a chunk of material strong enough to hold the Rune of Ages — warpstone.
    - Alaric barely hesitated before he pried the chunk of rock out of the ground.
    - Perhaps his once-wise mind was clouded by his overwhelming desire to prove himself the greatest Runesmith the world had ever seen, or perhaps the evil of the warpstone reached out and touched his already weakened reason.
    - It is said that he travelled to the Grey Mountains, where he constructed a mighty forge fuelled by the volcanic lifeblood of the peaks.
    - Alaric worked upon the warpstone ore day and night until he had produced a gleaming crown, upon which he struck the Rune of Ages.
    - As Alaric looked upon his creation, his mind cleared. He had been blinded by madness and obsession, but now he saw his horrible error.
    - The crown would not distill the destiny of those that wore it but would instead draw out even the smallest shred of evil intent and transform its wearer into the vessel for all the malice of all those who wore it before.
    - Alaric was horrified by what he had created, but he knew that the crown could not be destroyed.
    - He travelled to the Great Forest, to the windswept Howling Hills, and descended into the depths of a Dwarf mine from the times before the War of the Beard.
    - There he sought a place in which to hide the crown for eternity.
    - Alaric hewed a chamber from the living rock, placed the crown within, and sealed the chamber with the most potent of warding runes.
    - The crown lay hidden for many long centuries until a mighty earthquake shook the Howling Hills, bringing tales of fresh Gromril seams and wealth to be had in the area of the old mine.
    - Discovering the uncovered mine workings, Dwarf miners came upon the breached chamber.
    - What happened next is unclear, for only a single Dwarf emerged, blood-splattered and raving, into the light.
    - A short time later, a band of Night Goblins, ever on the search for new cracks and crannies to infest, came upon the mine, finding the insane Dwarf and his dead companions.
    - The lone miner was captured by greenskins, who discerned from his rantings that an object of great power was to be found somewhere in their new lair.
    - The Goblins tortured the mad Dwarf, yet could get little more from him.
    - Perhaps the location of the Crown would thus have remained secret, but a Dwarf rescue force led by Thane Grombold of the famous Krud clan came in search of the lost miners.
    - During the chaos that followed, a black-hearted Night Goblin came upon the crown by chance, slaughtered his fellows and fled with it into the forest.
    - Now, armies muster to retrieve the crown, for wild rumours of its powers have spread far and wide.
    - The Dwarfs seek to return it to their holds where Alaric's madness can be hidden for all time.
    - Grimgor thinks that, should he gain it, the strongest warriors in the land will come to fight him.
    - The Emperor sees in the crown an invaluable artefact of the Age of Sigmar, and believes that its power could be harnessed for the good of Man.
