An 84-year-old German man has been fined €250,000 for storing a WW2 tank in his basement.
The reason Klaus-Dieter F. has been fined so much money is due to local privacy laws because he breached the War Weapons Control Act. His punishment is a 14-month suspended prison sentence as well as a €250,000 (£213,000) fine.
Klaus-Dieter F. kept this WW2 Panther tank and an 88mm flak gun in a bunker under his home in Heikendorf, near to the city of Kiel. However, he also had some other things stored away in the bunker including a torpedo, a mortar, 70 assault rifles, and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition.
Many of these weapons had been decommissioned, but some were still functional which is why he has been in so much trouble since authorities discovered his collection back in 2015.
The man's defence was he used the tank to clear snow from outside his house one winter, but local authorities weren't having any of it.
As a result of this find and fine, Klaus-Dieter F. is required to sell or donate his tank and his anti-aircraft gun within the next two years otherwise he could be in even more trouble.
