Apropos king...
Tada: Now its the right time in the year for the king of rhinelandian potatoe dishes:
Der Döbbekuche

One recipe as there are different variations of this dish from village to village.

My mother for example makes Döbbekuche with smoked pork/beef sausage and smoked bacon, but with very fine grated potatoes.
The one who stir up the crust must be thrown into the deepest circle of hell. ^^

I think I already posted about this, but well after the ing long covid break, we have finally restarted with the Sagra della Patata!
Here you can find some pics divided by year.
Now not to be parochial, but you know that when it comes to food, no one venerates it as we do.
I mean, just look at this piece of art

Looks absolutely delicious. In Finland and Sweden, one of the signatures of summer starting is what we call new or early potatoes. They are potatoes that ripen early and are taken out of the ground very small. They are boiled and eaten whole. They have a very distinct buttery flavor and texture to them (they don't even feel like a starchy food in your mouth) and are considered a delicacy by most, me included.
A typical way to serve them is with early harvest onion stalks lighly fried in butter and things like smoked salmon, pickled herring (of which there are many different standard recipes), boiled eggs, and dark rye bread.

Yes we call them "Patate novelle" (novo = new); loving them, especially if you can put your hands on a bottle of two of a good Rosato wine to make them company

I am glad I have food just about ready and a bottle of wine open, because I am getting hungry with all this talk! Have a nice weekend, man!
Shouldn't it be vodka made from potatoes? It's the only potato thing I can swallow!
What sort of honest god fearing man doesn't love a good potato?

An interesting map indeed. I couldn't help noticing that the areas further away from America (where potato came from) are Very Potato, and the farthest European corner from Asia (where rice still comes from) is Very Rice.
Italy should be all pasta, though. Apart from that potato worshiping place in the middle.
good question aqd
