Question: what does "Shield Piercing" in melee weapon table do?

I noticed that in base game weapons having shield piercing trait are falx and rhomphaia.

In DeI, weapon with shield piercing trait are axe and sickle (interestingly, 2-handed axe are considered falx type and does not have shield piercing).

So I am curious what does this trait do? Does it neglect or reduce shield armor (which base game has but DeI does not have anyway) or shield defense. or both?

It does nothing. CA never enabled that effect.
