This is nonsense. An opt-out system gives the state an automatic claim unless the individual decides otherwise. Touchy-feely totalitarianism, basically.
no its to counteract the fact alot of people dont donate organs because they dont know how or they cant be arsed or their family dont know their wishes when they die, this way people are forced to make the small amount of effort to actually choose either way

erm, actually that is. it is the assumed right to your argans unless told otherwise. As i said, that is not even done with medical experimentation and not having permission will get doctors in serious trouble. And yet medical experimEntation has the potentional to save many more lives.

The state has rights to your money through taxes that help the rest of your countrymen, no one likes paying them but they're still there!
Not giving your organs to someone after you die would still be a choice, its just a different method of showing who does and doesn't want their organs donated. If you feel certain you don't want your organs donated you'll make sure they're not, but if you're undecided on it, 50-50 on what to do it means a higher chance that more peoples organs will go to people who need them to live.

Assumed by who, exactly? You certainly aren't talking in legal terms.

The idea of it makes me nautious but I can't think of one good reason why not. I'd like to be able to know who'd get my organs so I'd ask a Doctor 'So who's lined up for my liver?' and the Doctor says 'Well it's a 51 year-old heavy drinker who despite repeated attempts to stop drinking has ruined his Liver' to which I reply...well you can probably guess.

Pity I'm living in a fantasy world.

So do I, but they don't cut your organs out until you die so this shouldn't make a whole lot of difference to that.

If they can't be "arsed" or don't know how, then they don't donate. Ignorance or lethargy of the individual does not give the state a claim on his body. My body, my decision.

    I think it's a great idea.

I really don't see why people would object to this, unless they are a callous bastard who doesn't care about the rest of humanity.

There should be a check box question that you are required to complete before getting your drivers license.
    • I would like to be an organ donor
    • I am a callous bastard who doesn't care about the rest of humanity

Hang on a minute, what will they actually do with your body when they get it? Will your family get back your body minus a kidney or a liver, which isn't all that bad, or will they get a shell where just about everything has been pecked clean off you and you're unrecognisable?

By the state. Just because you haven’t opted out does not mean that you don’t want your organs harvested in just the same way as you claim not having a donor card does not necessarily mean you don’t want to donate.

the most sensitive thing they can take is your corneas but then its not like you're going to be sitting up eyes wide open much anymore, also when the take something out they put special packing back in so you look nice and full if you go all open casket (note no arms and legs will be missing when you come back)
