This thread has been copied over from the M2TW forums, and combined into one post, seemed like it was time to bring this here in the hopes it can shed some light on the modding process for those prepping mods for Empire. A couple of the entries which were very specific about files and tools were removed since they don't currently serve any utility for Empire.

I'd like to add, that multiplayer only modifications (like n2tw) would be very welcome in my book, and I'd love to see more of them which obviously mostly involves custom (and not campaign, very different) map making, skinning, models and balancing... not so much on the text side I guess. It'd be nice to see more mods take that route for ETW, concidering that a lot of work on battles can make them very well balanced and very fun/deep and great in multiplayer, which most campaign based mods seem to neglect.

This is very true. I would very much welcome Historical Battle packs for E:TW. It seems much more likely and productive to make some of these wars, rather than a full-fledged mod, a historical battle pack with scripted battles of the major engagements of the war letting you play as both sides in the conflict. I'd certainly have much more fun with that then a full campaign about one war or another.

Ummmm, ETW is suppose to be a totally new engine .. thus past experiences shouldn't be valid? yes? Although all videos I've watched seem to indicate it's exactly the SAME engine, just with a bigger map and sea power!.
Do we really know if the new engine was designed to be easily modded?

Since TW is big in modding and have people buying it for that reason they will not change that. Yes it is a new engine, adding Sea battles is about the same amount of C++ as land. Also alot more things like shoting from buildings.
