Default princess marries foriegn Family member / General

Is there a way to make the last names carry on to the children? i hate having kids with weird names that have no relation unto their father... for instance as portugual i married one of my princesses to Hugh de Valois of france... only to get a child named Demetrea U'lhuoa... is this hard coded or can this be fixed?

The children get the father's surname just as in real life and it's hardcoded.

Explain to me how you checked the family tree of France when you played as Portugal....

Doesn't the princess disappear from your family tree when you marry her to another faction? If she stays on your family tree, then it is understandable about the name. Can you provide a screen shot?

@ gigantus, i bribed a general from france and brought him to my "court" (sorry was doing a lil roleplay haha) . hes the one stationed at marseile at the beggining and he had a cool name(alot of historically famous people with that name) an i honestly couldnt remember if the fathers name would carry over if the guy was orriginally from another faction. I have just finished watching all 4 seasons of "The Tudors" and was trying to emulate some of their crazyness. ill work on getting a screen shot for ya i have to remember how lol

I guess that's when the game engine has a hiccup:

    - it assumes the husband is from the same faction
    - the name doesn't exist in the faction's name base

    screen shot:
    - press PrtScr button in game (check this for really detailed shots)
    - browse to Medieval II Total War\tgas
    - convert shot to JPG and upload (edit with a graphic editor that has capability of working with tga files - eg GIMP)
    .

Aye I have the same issue. "Foreign" general or family members that were seduced by princesses have children with funny last names.

There is a US term for that the censor gets.

You mean an illigimate child? No he's not a bastard.

The child of the princess and the "foreign" husband has a funny surname, not a title or nickname.

No, bastard is not censored. Bad joke.

The thing about it in those days it did happen. Not every princess got to marry "blue blood". After a war of attrition like the ones they fought in the Middle Ages, it did not take long to end with more eligible girls than boys and one could no longer be so picky.

Alright, but I've "imported" two former French Family Members, one whom was the '2nd' heir.

Empires grew in those days by marriage. Cheaper than war. Find a heir for what would be modern day Flanders and he would have titles in at least three other kingdoms around him.
