The article in Gameinformer mentions that the sound effects for BF3 have been totally rerecorded from actual weapons and vehicles from the Swedish military. They are revamping the whole sound system apparently.
In other news, there won't be a commander position.

Sounds good. I really hope weapons will sound like actual weapons, not like airsoft toys.
And it would be cool that shooting in interiors would make weapon's sound louder, but that might be too hard to implement.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
Here is a link describing the PC version more. It looks like the PC version is the way to go.

It doesn't seem there will be mod support at launch though which is a bummer. I think that is ok if they do a fantastic job.
EDIT: Sorry, fixed the link now.

Nah, definitely not okay. Mods are what made the BF series great, beyond anything else.
Quote from the link:
I don't think this means there will be no mods at all but you never know.Though the PC is the lead version of the game, there won’t be any support for modding on release. DICE say that the Frostbite 2 engine is complex and the tools would have to be dumbed down for general use. This doesn’t rule out a release of some form of mod tools in future.

Well even with modding the BF2 mods no matter how great they were (PR and FH2) were not as nearly as popular as Desert Combat and the original FH was for BF42. I think the stats and ranked servers had a lot to do with that so I can see why they wouldn't bother with modding tools for that reason
