098 : Mod is NOT RUNNING, what to do? (also crashes and other technical)
Reportedly, the SSHIP can run on Windows 11, as can other Med2 mods. See here.
(I) Small window problem (ie. screen resolution issue)

See file: mods/SSHIP_098/configuration.cfg
You need to modify the values so that you've got "true". You also may change 1200 into 1080 if you prefer.
Warning: sometimes the main game overrides the values given by the mod. If yours does so, you need to find your solution.

look for the section [video], you need to change both the line battle_resolution and the line campaign_resolution to suit you needs. Usually 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 would do.
Would also be better to change the line just below, tga_width, to your screen width as well.

5) Let me choose another location → Add
6) Select X:\Y, where X is the drive's letter of your choice, Y is a folder with a very short name (create it if necessary), e.g. SL (for Steam Library) - this to prevent files inside the mod's folder to have a path too long for Windows
7) Select Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition by checking the box on the right → Move
8) Select the folder you just created → Move
9) Optionally, navigate to X:\Y\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\ (or alternatively: Go to your Library → right click Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition → Properties... → Local Files → Browse...) to make sure that the files were moved successfully. If you're feeling paranoid, run the game
10) Download SSHIP 098 (and 7-Zip from
https://www.7-zip.org/ if you need to) - Personally, I downloaded the mod with JDownloader 2 (
https://jdownloader.org/): contrary to a standard download, it started instantly and didn't freeze my computer for the duration of the download
11) Cut (Ctrl+X) SSHIP_098.7z and paste (Ctrl+V) it into "X:\Y\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods", open the file, look at what greets you, then close the file
12a) If you were greeted by a single folder, then right click SSHIP_098.7z → 7-Zip → Extract here
12b) If you were greeted by a bunch of folders and/or files, then right click SSHIP_098.7z → 7-Zip → Extract in "SSHIP_098"
13) Optionally, either delete SSHIP_098.7z, or keep it for posterity / as backup (but in this case I'd suggest moving it somewhere else)
14) Optionally, rename the folder however you want (e.g. SSHIP_0.9.8 - notice the extra dots) - From now on I'll call this folder Z
15) Return to your Library on Steam → Click Add A Game on the bottom-left corner → Add a Non-Steam Game...
16) If you see the game, click the checkbox to its left → Add Selected Programs. Otherwise Browse... → Open "X:\Y\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\medieval2.exe" → Add Selected Programs
17) A new "game" named medieval2 should have appeared in your Library. Right click it → Properties...
18) Change medieval2 (the shortcut name) to whatever you want (e.g. SSHIP 0.9.8)
19) Change the target to the following:
Code:
"X:\Y\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\medieval2.exe" --features.mod=mods/Z
(i.e. click wherever in the target field, hit End on your keyboard, add a space, add --features.mod=mods/Z)
20) Use the new shortcut in your Library to play the game

098 : Mod is NOT RUNNING, what to do? (also crashes and other technical)
Hi
Im a tech noob and cant figure out how to correctly install SSHIP.
I downloaded SSHIP test 0.98 version of 21.08.21 from the sticky post and extracted the files into the mods folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods).
I ran the SS setup and made sure to choose the right settings. Now, i press the SSHIP launcher i get an error saying "cannot find M2TW or Kingdoms executable" and "SSHIP is probably installed into the wrong folder".
Why am i getting this error?
-
Re: Need installation help
Don't run the SS setup - I think this kills everything.
If this doesn't help, then write if you've run any other mod on your comp. If not, then installing in another folder may help, having to .exe files (kingdoms and medieval2) etc.
-
Re: Need installation help
I ran the SS setup to tick off the correct settings like it says in the installation instructions on this site.
I havent run any other mods besides SS 6.4, which works. I tried to extract SSHIP 0.98 version of 21.08.21 into the folder where M2TW and Kingdoms exe was located, but i still got an error when i pressed the SSHIP launcer.
As far as i understand i only had to extract the SSHIP folder to play, yes? not running any installation exe?
hope u can help
-
Re: Need installation help
so you want me to install M2TW kingdoms (I have it on steam), then install SS 6.4 but not run the setup, then download SSHIP test 0.98 version of 21.08.21 and extract the files into (in my case) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods, and then press the SSHIP launcher?
-
Re: Need installation help
no, just unload the SSHIP and run the launcher.bat
the base SS6.4 is now already included (and many unnecessary files were deleted, so the size of the SSHIP is smaller)
-
Re: Need installation help
So, I uninstalled M2TW and deleted all the files. I then downloaded M2TW again and reinstalled it. I then unpacked SSHIP into the mods folder and clicked the launcher but end up with the same error: "You probably installed SSHIP into the wrong folder". I tried moving SSHIP into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War but still not working. It did however change the loading screen when i tried to click the medieval2 exe but when I tried to start a campaign i got crashed to desktop.
Edit: i would very much appreciate if some1 could spell out the installation process from start to finish

Re: Need installation help

Re: Need installation help
Thanks, got it to work. I had to mask SSHIP as one of the original Kingdom mods. So i deleted the crusades files and put the SSHIP ones into that folder and then launched the crusades from steam - success
-
Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
I'm terribly sorry if this is an easily-searchable bug, but in my case, SSHIP starts in a small quarter of the screen window in the top left. It's not exactly a fullscreen issue, but what is it? Other mods work fine.
-
Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
About the size of the window, you have two options in the config file:
- set the option `windowed ` to false
- or set the correct resolution using the options `width` and `height'
I believe, based on what I read some time ago, that windowed mode is more stable, specially if you frequently atl-tab between the game and other stuff.
EDIT: @kostic about the logs you posted:
- in the first one the "missing banner" error O witnessed it a lot of time in logs without it causing a CTD
- in the second one there is 2 seconds between the last entry and the CTD, so it's likely not related I think.

Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
The above two suggestions are correct, underneath step by step in case you are not familiar with the set up of the game:
1. right click the mod's desktop shortcut and choose 'open file location'
2. open the CFG file in that directory with Notepad
3a. To disable windowed mode and return to full screen (default) look for the windowed line and change the value from true or 1 to false or 0 (zero)
3b. To keep windowed mode (more stable) look for lines (should be two) with resolution in it and enter your desktop resolution
4. Save and start mod

Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
@tullyccro : Sorry, I was able to load your save and pass the round without crashing. I even skipped the next lap to be sure.
The full log doesn't tell me anything either.
Already, if you were able to launch the game and launch a campaign, it means that, a priori, your game is correctly installed.
My advice :
- Close all your programs before launching SSHIP (even your browser)
- Perform in mods/SSHIP_098/ Map and Bin file cleaner.bat to redo the .bin and the map.
I am currently testing a campaign with HRE ! I'm just on the 6th round and I haven't had any bugs so far.

It could also be a corrupted or missing fike, sometime that happens on download, or unzip, or copy. In that case no solution other than starting again the whole install process, from the downloading step.

Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
Is the Custom Battle feature shut down for SSHIP0.98?
I have installed 0.98 - it looks amazing! However...
While I can definitely launch a campaign and fight battles on campaign maps without encountering CTD thus far, it occurs to me the Custom Battle feature is not working: whenever I click on that option, the game freezes for seconds and then immediately crashes to desktop.
I reinstalled a clean version of SS6.4 and SSHIP0.98 from scratch. The problem remains.
Is that a known issue for 0.98 at its current stage or is it rather an unique glitch for my system?
It's a bit frustrating right now as I wish to review a few factions' rosters via Custom Battle as I always do but am currently unable to even enter the Custom Battle's interface without crashing.
Does anyone have a clue what the problem may be?
-
Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
Thanks to all for the support. Re d/l and installed. Still crashed. Checked my eventviewer and changed permissions (New Win 11 install) still crashed. Copied and renamed medieval2 exe to kingdoms, crashed, so deleted it, crashed again. Performed file cleanup. Crashed on campaign load twice.
Disabled Razer background, 3rd Party Process Manager and X1 software and SUCCESS.
Now crashing on exit but no worries if it works otherwise.
Also re d/l the old Large Address Aware patcher, not sure if still needed but figured why not.
Forgot how moody this old .exe really is.

Do not install SS6.4 ! Your problems come from there! SSHIP 098 is a complete mod that contains everything you need. You just need to have the SSHIP_098 folder in the mod folder. (Medieval II totalwar/mods/SSHIP_098/)
The game launches with the SSHIP 098 launcher.bat which is in the folder. You can then make a desktop shortcut.
@tullyccro: Glad you got to play! Indeed, the engine is old and does not support other apps running in the background. A few months ago, I discovered that my CTDs in the campaign map no longer arrived if I closed my browser in the background... :sweating:

Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
thanks for the reply!
yeah, guess i'm worrying too much for nothing haha. i'm very novice regarding the technical aspect of mods not via steam
so is this 0.98 a whole new standalone that has to be downloaded, or is it just a small file that adds thing to the main mod that is already in mods folder? in other words, do I have to delete the version that I have now? or not?

Standalone. Delete the previous version. Download a large file and put it into /mods folder.

General tips to prevent crashing?
I experience a lot of crashes playing 098. Some of them are in between turns, those are mitigated by frequent saving. But recently I had three crashes right after a battle. That gets frustrating very quickly, there's no autosave and I have to fight the battle again. This makes the game somewhat unplayable for me.
Any general tips on how to improve game stability? Are there any settings that would help?

from experience of many players, this is not the fault of the mod in the current state (it used to be in the previous versions). You should look at the webpages of the Titanium mod, perhaps Europa Barbarorum II - there should be a lot of information to look at the weak spots of one's intallation/computer.
-
Re: General tips to prevent crashing?
Also remember to use LAA, which is the main folder, your ctds seem like you may needed.
-
Re: General tips to prevent crashing?
It is also preferable to close your internet browser as well as any software in the background. I myself noticed the disappearance of certain CTDs by this simple principle.
-
Re: General tips to prevent crashing?
Thank you everyone for the replies. I followed the advice to look for Europa Barbarorum tips.
1. I applied the 4GB patch
2. I've set the executables to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode and as an administrator.
The game has been running flawlessly since, haven't had a single CTD.
-
Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
You need to modify the values (in red) in the mods/SSHIP_098/configuration.cfg file

Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
Getting a nasty CTD after some battles almost periodically, all it says is:
"A fatal graphics error has occurred, the game will now shut down. This is normally caused by having your graphics settings set too high, please try running the program again and lowering your graphics settings before a battle"
I'm playing on the lowest possible settings and my PC can run this game on the highest settings. Sometimes this problem happened in Stainless Steel 6.4 too but without the error message it just CDT.
Tried reinstalling, updating my drivers, running the game in win7 compatibility mode still getting this issue.

As jurand said, this is likely beyond the reach of our modding team.
Best I can do to help is share my setup I guess: using an amd processor and integrated graphic, SSD and 16gb of ram, running windows 10, I play the game:
- without compatibility settings
- the bat file is launched as administrator
- I applied the LAA patch
- the game is in windowed mode

I checked the instructions on the new SSHIP version and it just says to unpack the zip file to the "mods" folder on my M2 (Kingdoms) folder.
I m trying to run the Launcher but keep getting a message :

I've got two exe files in my folder: kingdoms.exe and medieval2.exe (this is actually the same file, just copied to another name).
Apply LAA to both.
you may also check if the path in the configuration.cfg is the right one.
sometimes the program itself may override the path, iirc (and I don't know how to solve it, you must try ;-)

Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
I did apply LAA to both medieval2 and kingdoms exe files
I opened up via notebook configuration.cfg (from SSHIP unpacked files) and i dont see any path
Problem persists

Re: The CROWNS system
What kind of black magic is this? Any specialty I have to consider when installing? I unpacked it, ran large address awareness exe then the map and bin file cleaner bat, then played the mod. When I think about it, I also have this campaign popup of the serbian prince or something nearly every turn. Don't know if something is :wub:ed with my installation? Geez this sucks
PS: I did a fresh install of the mod but without the cleanup.bat and it works instantly. Everything else is the same, somehow it corrupts the installation. Maybe it is also related to the Utrecht bug? Any way to fix it in an ongoing save? Anyway, it works now. Thanks for having a look.
Best regards

In the mods folder, you need to have a SSHIP_098 folder, and you files inside that one. Is it like this on your computer?

Try:
- reinstall from scratch
- apply the LAA patch that is in the sship folder
Also please sent us the log (that is in the log folder) when you have a crash.

Sometimes the .cfg file of the Steam installation may prevent loading up the mod. You need to find the solution on your comp for the mod's .cfg has the upper hand.
BTW - welcome, @RVFVS, it's rare to see somebody who posted over 14k messages. We are honoured to attract your attention. Give us a feedback when you manage to run the mod and see the content.

It's not the CFG file of the main game - that one will always be overruled by entries in the mod's CFg file. Steam however has a custom launch option that overrules everything. It is not uncommon for modders to instruct using that option to start a mod, and it will override trying to start another mod.
It can be found by right clicking the game in Steam's library and choose 'properties', simply empty it's content.
The most common problem however, eg 'main game starts instead of mod' is a simple matter of having installed the mod into the wrong directory (or changed the directory name) which causes the mod path in the CFG file to be invalid and thus defaulting to the main game.

Re: SSHIP - General Discussion
My game consistently crashes turn after turn. After I end turn it goes for a bit then CTD. I load the autosave, end turn goes fine. Next turn it crashes again after ending turn. This has been a consistent problem I've had with this version. 0.97 also had this but lots of other crashes too from battles and sieges.

I had the same problem, asked in this thread.
The following fixed it:
1. I applied the 4GB patch
2. I've set the executables to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode and as an administrator.
The game has been running flawlessly since, haven't had a single CTD.
The only drawback is that turn times take significantly longer.

I launcehd it using the .bat-file but i only get the original 5 factions when trying to start a campaign. Can't see that anything has changed to SSHIP in the game. I am complete newbie at this so maybe something I'm missing?
Thanks in advance.
Mod path should be: .../mods/SSHIP_098

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
Hello everyone,
I played the previous version (0.97) for months and had fun with it but i have a campaign lag in this version. Vanilla and Stainless Steel 6.4 works fine btw. How can i solve this? (I used LAA and 4gb patch)
Also when i run the .bat file as administrator it says: "ERROR: Cannot find the M2TW or Kingdoms executable. You probably installed SSHIP into the wrong folder." However, i don't get this message when i run by double clicking.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
Oh, I realized that i replied to a wrong thread. Sorry for that but i solved the lag problem. It was because of the windowed mode setting in configuration.cfg. I've changed the values of "borderless_window" and "windowed" to "false" and it works fine now.

Yup, that's what happens when you run the BAT file as admin. You are supposed to set the executable file (medieval2\kingdoms) to admin rights (and Win7 for good measure) instead. And then run the mod from the BAT file, create a desktop shortcut for convenience.

'Windowed' mode is for developer's convenience when 'Alt tabbing' - it should be disabled in the public release.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
I'm having trouble installing this, it said its a standalone and to just extract the zip file into the mods folder so I did that, and it just emptied all the contents into the mods folder, when I clicked on the launcher it said it couldn't detect kingdoms and that I installed it into the wrong folder (I didn't) I then created a mod folder for the mod within the mods folder, named SSHIP, put all the loose mod files into that, and hit the launcher again. this time it loaded a small windowed version of vanilla mediaeval. I'm at a loss as to what to try next.

This is how I installed it:
1) Open Steam
2) On the top-left corner: Steam → Settings
3) Downloads → Steam Library Folders
4) Click the + button
10) Download SSHIP 098 (and 7-Zip from https://www.7-zip.org/ if you need to) - Personally, I downloaded the mod with JDownloader 2 (https://jdownloader.org/): contrary to a standard download, it started instantly and didn't freeze my computer for the duration of the download

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
Thank you guys for the comments and feedback, Echo4 - we will implement your corrections, thank you!
Regarding installation, I have a steam version as well, but my installation was very simple:
1. Unzip the SSHIP folder,
2. Without changing the name of the folder, copy it as below:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\SSHIP_098
3. Inside of this folder there should be a bunch of files and folders, among which also 'data' folder.
4. Start the game with 'SSHIP 098 launcher.bat'
That's it, regarding the compatibility settings look at some of the threads at our forum - Gigantus explained it very thoroughly.
-
Launcher says it cannot find Medieval 2.exe or kingdoms.exe. I have put it into mods folder, but I haven't installed the game into C hard disk, but another internal one. Any fix?
May be a dumb question, but can I have both SS6.4 and this one, and select which I run?
I own the steam version of the game. Right now, I have installed SSHIP in SS6.3 folder, so it replaced Stainless Steel files.
Now I run the game from sslauncher.exe (it runs SSHIP mod).
Is there a way of an installation that will allow both mod (Stainless Steel 6.4) and submod (SSHIP) to be available??
-
Re: Can I run both Stainless Steel 6.4 and this one?
sure, every mod can have its own separate folder inside the folder "mods"
as for launching the mod you want, i dont have ss installed right now so i might be wrong but generally there should be a ".bat" windows batch file in the mod folder that can be used to launch the mod, right click on it then "edit" and put in the correct path, otherwise when you want to launch ss6.4 it will launch sship instead
if you didnt understand the above or it doesnt work just edit the folder names when you need to play one mod or the other, like if you wanna play sship right now then change ss6.4 folder name to asdasdasdas
hope it helps
-
No, it doesn't start. My installation path is outside D (in another internal SSD). Then Medieval II Total War/mods/SSHIP_+098 and files are there.
When I try to open launcher.bat, it does nothing. When I try to run it with admin rights, it says that it cannot find medieval 2 or kingdoms.exe
I really cannot understand why is this so difficult to install it
UPDATE. It started when I put both the 2 .exe files (kingdoms and medieval 2 to run as admin!!)
-
Re: 098 : Mod is NOT RUNNING, what to do? (also crashes and other technical)
well, to your original question, what i was saying is that you can have as many mods and versions you want, all mods and their files are contained in their own folder

Re: 098 : Mod is NOT RUNNING, what to do? (also crashes and other technical)
Ok, just configured it. For a weird reason it run only if I set kingdoms.exe and medieval2.exe to run with admin rights
-
Just finished setting up SSHIP 98 which took longer than expected... And when i launch the game from sship launcher, why does the game go to the corner of my screen? Can't make it full screen even if I change to widescreen in options, or any resolution i apply. Don't have this problem with medieval 2, ss 6.4, or third age total war.
Nvm just found the problem.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
I've played SS 6.4 for ages off and on, and after a long hiatus was taking another look at it when I decided I would try the new standalone SSHIP098, as it seemed to now be a much more simply affair to install. Indeed it is. As a newbie to SSHIP, I can only give a preliminary opinion, but this seems amazing. First thing that stuck out is the lovely campaign map graphics. Beautiful. Congrats to everyone involved and thank you for giving us this beauty in progress.
I just installed SHHIP098 a few hours ago and haven't had time yet to actually play anything, I've just messed around with it a bit. But a couple questions have arisen. I searched, and read for answers but to no avail. I would appreciate anyone who can help me out on these.
1. The install contains two saved files, aragon1 and aragon2, and a quicksave and a save file. I tried them and they work, but I have no idea what they were meant to be or why they were provided. Just wondering.
2. This one is a more important question. I prefer a slow or default movement speed for animations on the campaign map. And my quick try of movements in SSHIP revealed that the animations are set to rapid speed. In SS6.4, the animation speed for the campaign map is slow, and if one wants rapid movement then pressing the space bar once results in the more rapid movement. I prefer the slower movement since sending diplomats, merchants, princesses, etc, into the hinterlands can reveal lots of information otherwise not seen where, (e.g., bridges, foreign/enemy units etc.), are revealed, but only for a short distance while ones character is near them and then disappear when the character moves on and those sometimes valuable bits of information are then lost but to memory. With rapid movement they aren't so easy to keep track of.
So what I'd like to achieve is to revert this back to the slower default SS6.4 animation speed and use the space bar if/when I want to speed up the animations.
How can I do that in SSHIP098? Or can I?

ad 2 - Now I'm really confused, I presumed incorrectly I see, that it had been purposely changed for some reason in SSHIP perhaps to speed up the game. But no, on my install the space bar merely slows the character for just a brief moment, then immediately the little feller whizzes off at Warp speed. I also tried the "spacebar twice", to see if it had an effect. But it doesn't, and the character still races off to the chosen clicked upon target just as fast.
I searched this out and there are seemingly no lack of folks (particularly on Steam - no I'm not on Steam), that want to speed up the animations who are otherwise using the default SS6.4 or vanilla game which is slow movement by default, and then sped up with the spacebar. And so the suggested popular fix mentioned is to use the spacebar to speed it up, and hit the spacebar twice to slow it down again, like an on and off toggle effect. But in my install of SHHIP098, the default animation is fast, and spacebar once or twice does nothing. Bottom line is; it is always fast and nothing I do seems to change that.
Odd that in all my years playing vanilla, SS6.4, ROC LMA V, and VI, I never needed to use a double spacebar like so many have suggested as the campaign animations always reverted back to the default slow movement speed without the need to use a double spacebar.
Since I have not as yet played on the SHHIP098 battle map, or tried several different factions (using aragon at the moment), I'll let you know if it I see it across all aspects of my maps/factions, or isolated to just one particular aspect.
Is it possible I have missed/forgotten a game setting somewhere?

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
@bweiss you only need to hit spacebar once and the speed goes down.
try before moving any unit, hit spacebar once, then move it.
this should work.

Hot dog! Thank you SkarinV. That's it. I've just used a mouse click to speed up the animations so much, and seldom if anytime used the space bar. It works as a toggle on/toggle off effect if used once "before" the character is chosen to move. (That part I never figured out). The mouse click not so much. It speeds it up if already set to slow, but not if the speed setting is already fast (will not slow it down), so it stays at the speed already set as an over ride to the mouse click. (I have no idea what all the double spacebar suggestions over on steam are about)? None of that worked for me.
Anyway, appreciate it. Good bunch of folks in here. All is well with the world again. ~Salute

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
Alrighty now, I dug into the default campaign speed issue a bit and while the space bar satisfies the slow down of animations on the campaign map, it still results in a default of fast speed on the next save file load or new game. The default animation speed on campaign map movement for SSHIP098 is set to fast. And I wanted slow. The difference for those interested, is that while using the space bar as normal in SSHIP098 to slow down the animations works, it reverts right back to fast (on my install), whenever I reload a save game including a quick save, or quit the game and restart. And the double tap/space bar does not work at all with the fast default setting.
For someone wanting slow speed out of the gate each loaded save, it causes me to have to reload all the time when forgetting to hit the space bar first before moving someone.
The SSHIP098 "configuration.cfg" file in the mods root folder contain a lot of, well configurations, for the mod. One of which sets the campaign map animation speed to fast on loading a save or starting a game. The setting is in the [game] section, and looks like this:
campaign_map_speed_up = true # Automatically speed up characters movements on strategic map - (true/false)
To set SSHIP098 to a default slow speed for campaign map animations, just change the setting of "true" to "false".
Then upon initial load of a campaign, or quick save, etc., it will default start campaign map movements at slow speed. Use of the mouse left click or space bar, will speed it up but on a character by character basis defaulting back to slow for the next character move. Additionally, hitting the space bar twice,"if" the default is set to slow (false), works as a toggle on/toggle off. Causing all campaign map movements to use fast speed. To then revert back to slow as the default for any movement, hit the space bar again just once. And back to slow default you go. Otherwise, it will now start at slow speed upon the next reloaded save.
It's always the little things...

Re: 098 : Mod is NOT RUNNING, what to do? (also crashes and other technical)
Hello, I have a problem with running SSHIP 0.98 on my Mac. I use the M1 Mac and when I started a new campaigning (I have a Steam version of M2TW), the load is longer and then the game goes to crash. With the SSHIP 0.97 was it good (the game crashes a lot, but it works). Can I solve this problem?

Custom battles - I've got no idea, I've never tried playing them.
exe - I don't think so.
-
Re: 098 : Mod is NOT RUNNING, what to do? (also crashes and other technical)
@xentoo : Usually when you can play the custom battles but not the campaigns, it means there is an error with the model_strat...but that can't be the case here since the 098 version was played by the other players.
The other idea would be a lack of memory allocated to the kingdoms.exe
Indeed the campaign requires more resources, so much so that for some, the game simply crashes when they let tasks run in the background (like an internet browser for example).
Maybe by using the Large Address Aware.exe software (into ...mods/SSHIP_098/) and targeting the game executable you will have access to the campaign ?

I have a question (this is my first mod installed for medieval 2): I installed the mod and can correctly launche it and get into the start menu, but whenever I try to either select early or high-late campaign, I just get a pop-up that I must select and item from some list. I don't know what to do, the only thing that came to mind was change the mod-folder name in the config-file to americas (as that is the way I start it) anyone got advice?

I you're able to launch the mod (ie you see the nice picture of the knights from 1346, and a nice letters SSHIP098) then the mod folders names cannot have any impact. I'd rather guess you might have not run the mod properly (then - check the download instructions and run the mod - usually not using the Steam button, but the .bat file in the folder)

The only .bat file I can see is a Campaign_AI_switcher.bat which doesn't change anything if I run it, where can I find the start.bat?

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
You should find in the SSHIP_098 folder a file called SSHIP 098 launcher
This is the .bat you are looking for. ;)

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
Please excuse my ignorance, but the installalation instruction say install directly into 'mods' folder, is that correct? Not in a SSHIP folder? I did the former and I was told that could not find medII exe
Edit now I just get vanilla medII game

Hello again. I have now tried installing version 0.98, and get the error "Could not find Medieval 2 or Kingdoms excecutable, you probably installed the mod in the wrong folder". I did follow instructions and don't really know how it is in the wrong folder. I also deleted the previouis 0.97-folder before installing this (I did not reinstall Med2 completely however).
Please see the screenshot attached here to see my install path (top of the file-explorer window), the content of my SSHIP_098-folder and the error-message I got.
I know previously there has been problems when modding the Steam version, namely that it needs to be installed outside the Programfiles86-folder and that you need to duplicate the medieval2.exe and name it "kingdoms". I have already done both of these things, and applied LAA to both the medieval2.exe and the kingdoms.exe. Is there something I have overlooked? I'm on Windows 10, Medieval 2 is installed in a secondary steam library on a secndary drive.

Right, thank you for replying. I don't think the .exe files have a hidden attribute, assuming I understand you correctly on what a hidden attribute is... I attached a screenshot of the properties-window of my kingdoms-exe. The box that is marked "Skjult" (that's "Hidden" in norwegian) is un-checked. So I assume that means it does not have a hidden attribute? Its the same for the medieval2.exe-file.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
Hi there.
I installed the game, ran it. It ran fine.
Went away for a few weeks, came back.
Launch the game.
It complains that it can't find the medieval.exe file.
Any advice other than reinstall? xD
edit: Other mods run fine.
this is weird.
Even other .bat mods like divide and conquer.
edit 2: Did a reinstall of the mod, still can't find my .exe hum. I have a feeling there is something stupid going on. something facepalm inducing.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
Hi I just found out about this mod (it's awesome) and found a version 0.97 on mod DB as a full folder install with the ss launcher etc. worked great by having it in my mod folder and running it via the command line. (even with the dif edition via steam/Mac) but when I thy to run this version it won't do anything (there isn't a .exe). the https://www.moddb.com/mods/sship one works but crashes like this mod sometimes does. does anyone here have a complete folder with the ss launcher or is there a way around this? many thanks in advance :)
-
Re: [DOWNLOAD] SSHIP 0.98 ver. September 8th, 2022
The thing is that I play on mac, I can therefore run the file through the steam launcher advanced options: --features.mod=mods/SS6.3 (Example) because that folder was from this download: https://www.moddb.com/mods/sship/downloads/sship097 (the full folder instal launches fine) If there is a full folder instal like the one above I could play it just fine I guess but when I do make a folder is CTD's strait after trying to launch... I really want to play the new patch because sship rocks!
Thanks for thinking along :)
Kindly,
Dennis

Re: 098 : Mod is NOT RUNNING, what to do? (also crashes and other technical)
@Dennis Verbruggen: Version 098 is more stable and more complete than 097. I strongly advise you to install it ! ;)
For this, be aware that there is no longer an SS6.3 folder, but you will have to unzip SSHIP 098 in a folder named SSHIP_098 (Respect the writing so that it is recognized by the mod's configuration file !)
This folder is not created when decompressing the .zip by default, which is why some players do not understand why their game does not launch.
Once the SSHIP_098 folder is installed in the mods folder, you just need to find the SSHIP 098 launcher.bat to launch the game.

Hey :) I get the install and did it like you described but when I use the steam launcher advanced options: --features.mod=mods/SSHIP_98
It Just ctd. It doesn't do this with the normal steam launcher advanced options: --features.mod=mods/SS6.3 This Works with the old one instal folder..
I am on mac steam using definitive edition though... are there other people here that got it to run on mac steam? I could send screens of how my folder looks. Is there a way to make a this compatible like the one at https://www.moddb.com/mods/sship/downloads/sship097
I don't know why that one works and this one doesn't... :(
Thanks for taking the time to help me out.. this mod makes me so happy and I would love to keep playing it while its developing.

I've tried at least 4 extracting software. A few renaming tips, shutting down, rebooting, etc. solutions. I still can't extract the whole file. Too badEnable GingerCannot connect to Ginger Check your internet connection

Re: Bugs Reports & Technical Help
I did a new install of SSHIP_098 and started it through the launcher and it worked. Even siege battles.
Problem is that it opens in a small window.
How do I fix that?

See file: mods/SSHIP_098/configuration.cfg
You need to modify the values so that you've got "true". You also may change 1200 into 1080 if you prefer.
Warning: sometimes the main game overrides the values given by the mod. If yours does so, you need to find your solution.

### If you want to enable windowed mode, uncomment the following settings and adapt them to you screen resolution
borderless_window =false
windowed =false
# battle_resolution = 1920 1200 # Resolution on the battle map - (h*w)
# campaign_resolution = 1920 1200 # Resolution on the campaign map - (h*w)
# tga_width = 1920

Re: Units RECRUITMENT system
Hello everyone I have had a problem with the mod, maybe i didn't install it correctly or missed a step, i really don't know, but basically yesterday I found out about this mod and downloaded and installed the outdated version from mod db and played it until I eventually found this updated version and wanted to play it, so I installed it from the links that are available here and extracted the files into the correct mod folder same way I did with the other version, Ran the launcher which had no image I don't know if it's supposed to be like that or not but I ran it and the game opened correctly but it doesn't want to enter fullscreen, is this a problem with my pc or is it the mod? I really don't know because the other version didn't have this problem so I'm a bit confused as to what to do.[IMG]file:///C:/Users/Angelo/Pictures/launcher.PNG[/IMG]
