After I posted my feedback I realized I was on VH battle difficulty. I just turned it down and voila no more demigod hoplites. :laughter: It certainly was a unique challenge.
Sure, but so was giving gifts, receiving ambassadors and many other non-treaty actions. In most cases these were not guarantees against future aggression the same way a marriage or NAP/friendship...
100 turns in using the Nov 17 update and I love most of it so far. The only real balance issue I've run into is with hoplites. The armored and elite variants are absolute killing machines,...
Is there any way to eliminate the reputation penalty for declaring war on a trade partner? Trade Agreement is the only treaty type that does not relate to military action, and it always seemed odd...
Many of the Hellenic states, including Ptolemies, will be friendly toward you early campaign. This is especially true if you choose the starting family that has +relations with Hellenic culture....
The "Educate" action giving a random attribute bonus feels like a wasted opportunity by CA. Especially now that the trait UI has been expanded. Is there a way to have this action give a trait on...
IIRC Carthage does get something similar for Sicily. However it's not nearly as strong as what Rome gets for Italy.
Does this script happen vs. the player too? I always thought it was a mechanic to help Rome survive against other AI, but haven't invaded Italy in a long time.
Parthian Cataphracts. Only available from tier 3 in Parthava, but they are absolute monsters. My other favorite is Scythian noble mercenaries although they're not technically AOR. Both are superior...
Ok I haven't hit thorax reforms yet. The reform version of their basic melee cav and cataphracts look way better than the early versions.
Batria's core cav roster seems outclassed by the AOR and merc units they have available, and many of the AOR/mercs cost the same or are actually cheaper.
The two main examples i noticed:

I tend to agree that they are very situational and usually aren't worth building ATM. I only run into frozen region issues a few times per campaign (just don't try to cross in winter).
For that...
That's strange. I just tested it again and same thing happened. I see the +40 spices region effect for Baktra, but the icon doesn't show up next to the settlement name and when I go to the trade...
Any suggestions for how to use the spice resource more effectively? It doesn't seem to give any trade income on the first turn after I load a game. Is that due to it being script based and needing...
I have the same issue since the ancestral beta patch, but as marmil said above just scrolling the map (I guess also ending turn) fixes it.
@Sonny - Thanks I am using that one in my current campaign, but unfortunately it comes bundled with x2 tech cost.
@Jake - That sounds awesome. Modular hardcore changes would be perfect.
I think the bigger issue with Diodotus is that he starts the campaign age 45, unmarried and with no kids. This is really a CA question, but why do none of the faction leaders start with children? ...
Any chance you could add some more standalone options? Would love doubled build time and costs without the other changes.
@Goffredo85: Thanks that makes sense.
@Greek Strategos: I'm having the same problem. I think it is only the "official" Patch 19 w/o the beta option. So if you started a campaign with the family...
Gameplay Changes
Unit formations are now limited to 4 lines deep at most.
Will this also now apply in DEI? I think some (pike) formations are deeper than that. Although it would be helpful...
Table values are interesting. Thanks for posting. Leather/furs being a 4 is surprising, as is livestock being cheaper than grain. I always felt like I got a better trade return with livestock but...
So I used "find spouse" for Ptolemy on turn 1. It found him a spouse, but it also gave him a new sister (got a message that she "came of age" although she spawned at age 28)?
Either this is a bug...
Are you viewing the upgraded building in the building browser? If so it may be showing the new units that will be made available through the upgrade, not every unit that will be available.
Don’t we have that already? I think Empire for example requires a fairly high % of influence in addition to the minimum imperium requirement. Not sure about Republic specifically.
I agree it’s not necessary. But I also don’t think it is a problem that needs to be fixed. There are other high tier buildings that are basically vanity projects as well and are not always sensible...
More influence = more provinces but aside from home region I think the distribution is outside of your control. 33% influence is pretty low - you can go up to 50% or even a bit higher without...
love how they just pretend Attila never happened lol
Yeah I guess it depends on how long you stick with your campaigns. I rarely play past Imperium V because I feel like most of the challenge is gone at that point. For me that's "late game". I do...
The "political animal" general skill also reduces banditry, so one way to deal with it is to have your governors invest in that skill. It's not ideal because it is a separate skill tree from the...
A few counterpoints since you asked if you missed anything:
-While it looks good on paper keep in mind 80-90% of that might be lost to empire maintenance (assuming late game empire since you have...
better late than never...but seriously almost 5 years after release?? This was easily the #1 request from the community, instead we got female gladiators and BEES ARTILLERY lol. I'll never...
you skipped Punic
I generally agree with this list, but it depends if you look strictly at roster or also starting position/region wealth/trade potential. Iberian is the hardest one for...
The double upkeep is appropriate b/c two major stats where they beat standard archers (range and melee) confer HUGE advantages.
Range negates the main advantage slingers have. Archers are best...
All good. Just wanted to throw it out there.
Unrelated question: is it possible to add population filters to the campaign map strategic overview? I assume the answer is no since pop is a script,...
If you are already fighting on multiple fronts, the diplomacy AI is much more likely to declare war. Even factions that otherwise seem to have good relations with you. It's basically a hidden malus...
Right. I think the article supports what I’m tryin to convey. That is, Gallic warriors in this period probably wouldn’t have used a shieldwall to maneuver or advance in formation like cohorts of...
What is the difference between shieldwall and phalanx formation in game?
It's a bit jarring to fight so many barbarian phalanx formations. Working my way through Gaul as Rome now, and the AI consistently recruits stacks that are nearly half phalanx troops. The battles...
Not positive it's a bug, but I think the piracy penalties on Roman major settlement Tier III and IV trading ports need to be switched.
Tier II - 15%
Tier III - 35%
Tier IV - 25%
Tier III...
