Solomon's Temple Guard
Quality: Elite. Type: Religious Order.
Armour Upgrades: (none) Full Plate, (bronze) Advanced Plate.
Solomon's Temple Guard was innitially formed by Grandmaster Guillaume de Sonnac to keep out inquisitive eyes from the remains of Solomon's Temple, where Templars conducted archeological research. Soon, though, the Guard was employed by Pope and King of Jerusalem as guardians of most sacred places of worship, as well as guarding the King's palace. Guard consits of only the best veteran warriors, which have deserved their finest equipment on the field of battle - armour crushing poleaxes and full plate harnesses.

Currently, for beta release they are given the generic full plate soldier model (like dismounted broken lances without armour upgrade). Later, I will make a complete new model & skins for them, with full avant plate armour, upgradeable to maximillian-style footmen armour.
Note, although in description it says they are formed by a Templar Grand Master (meaning before 1314.), the current unit is supposed to be their late-era descendants, and they will become available only in the later stages of the game, concurently with other advanced units (for RR, this is cca. 1380).

So most if not all of the unit skins are done already?

did they not use closed helmets that much
i thought they did
like theese
i beg of you include them (closed helmets)
like this
i know some wore flat op helmets and some had coifs but i was pretty sure that most knights could afford a full face helmet.
but your mod, your rules
God dam, I wish Boromir survived
Of course there will be closed, visored, greathelms, bascinets and all other variety. Just not right off the bat. Remember, it's 1080 when the mod starts, and closed helms came into use in the mid-12th century

Good to know they'll be in, knights ain't no knights without closed helms.

That reminds me of an elven helm from LOTR. Did the crusaders really wear that?

No crusaders, at least in the Middle East wore barbuttas. They came into fashion together with other antic stuff and generally more interest in ancient times, in the renaisance period. As a functional pieces of armour, they were used from the late 14th/early 15th century, and we all know what happened to crusaders by that time.
I will have units with barbuttas (already made some), just not Order knights.

Reading Helen Nicholson's "Knight Templar 1120-1312" (Osprey) I notice she has a section on Templar training which mentions "The Templar regulations also refer to their using crossbows, which could be fired from horseback or on foot" (p.25)
Which suggests it might be an idea to add mounted crossbowmen to the Templar roster?
As for templar horse armour, the Order's 12th century statutes make no reference to horse armour. It appears to have only started to be adopted in the late 12th century so the earliest Order knights should not have horses with any armour.
By 1308 however the Templars had armour for both men and horses.

Thnx for info, this conforms with my unit roster, except mounted crossbowmen. I will make them available for Templars, although at a bit later date, probably same time as other factions get them, for balancing reasons.
Early Templar mounted unit, Confanoniers, will have barder horses, while Templar Knights, which will become available on the turn of 12/13th century, have mailed horses. Praeceptors, an elite unit, will get fully armoured horses, while Lancers, in fashion of a late cavalrymen, no horse armour at all, but with heavy couched lances.

1308 date was for an inventory of Templar equipment in Cyprus. At that date they were still operational in Cyprus and didn't get arrested until 1310 when King Henry II returned to power there.
1307 was when the French Templars were arrested.
