Yes, it works now. Another issue is that you dont have to pack them back manually, you should let medieval.exe to pack them.
Not quite straightforward, but it works in the end.

OK. found a solution for the scotish and all the eastern european factions in the german version.
take a look at descr_sound_accents:
in the german version of the game there are no scottish , mongolian and eastern european accents.PHP Code:
accent English
factions england, normans, saxons
accent Scottish
factions scotland
accent French
factions france
accent German
factions hre
accent Mediterranean
factions milan, venice, sicily, papal_states, byzantium, spain, portugal, slave
accent East_European
factions russia, poland, hungary, denmark
accent Arabic
factions turks, moors, egypt
accent Mongolian
factions mongols, timurids, aztecs
you must change it like this BEFORE you start mtw2 to rebulid music.dat, music.idx, events.dat and events.idx:
its a shame CA left this one out for the german users....PHP Code:
accent English
factions england, normans, saxons, scotland, russia, poland, hungary, denmark
accent Scottish

Is there a limit to how mnay tracks we can have for each each eg. Only ten tracks for Mediterrannean tension? And do we have to replace existing tracks with our own or can we just add them in underneath. Lastly, is the order that the tracks are played the same as the order in the descr_sound_text files, or is it random? Thanks for the tutorial.
To my knowledge, there's no limit but don't be surprised if you don't hear a few songs at first. For the campaign map, you don't have to replace the existing tracks. You can put your tracks either on top/below/mixed all around. For the battle map, the only way I could get my tracks to play was by replacing the existing tracks. For some reason, the game wouldn't play my tracks unless I took out the originals. As for order, it's random.
When I try to launch the game after step 5:
Medieval 2: Total War has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit
I've done as was specified, deleted the events and Music files, but it's refusing to recompile a new version.
I do not have the uncompressed MTWII version (Where all the files are there - I simply downloaded the sound text files). Is there a specific option to force it to recompile them?
How do I repack voices and sound effects!!!!?!?!!?
I can mod music very easily but I don't know how to get new voice and sfx files!!

now i have the musics back, but my custom musics dont play!!!!!!!! bah!!
Ok guys, one little mistake in the descr_sounds_music.txt file, and you're going to have problems rebuilding the .dat and .idx sound files. You have to edit the txt file very carefully. Also, when you're replacing a track, you have to remove it from the music folder or the track you replaced it with will not play.
Edit: Updated the first post.

so, when we add musics we have to replace the original ones?
When you add music to the battle map, yes, you have to completely remove the originals or you won't hear your own. When you're adding music to the campaign map, you don't have to remove the originals unless you're replacing them.
Hi all.
I was just reading the tutorial for the addition of custom music into the game.
However, when I started to mod the game, I noticed some things. First, I did not have a music folder. Second, the regular game music disappeared when I input the new music! The new music will play, but everything else has disappeared.
Can somebody give me the files for the old music so I can add them?
Please, I beg of you.
Have you deleted any other files except : events.DAT and events.IDX ?
I just followed the instructions on the tutorial, which is lower on the list of topics in Tutorials, I believe. The one written by Trajan.
I will quote the step I took, which you are also asking me about:
"In your data/sounds folder, first backup your events.dat, event.idx, Music.dat, and Music.idx files in case you screw up. Next, delete those files."
That is what I did. I still have the backups. What shall I do so that I may enjoy both custom and in-game music?
Personally, I prefer renaming files to deleting them. Less stressful if you make mistakes.
Second, did you download this file and place the sound texts in your data folder? My music (including game menu ) refused to play until I installed that...

Yes, I already did. The files have been there for a while ever since I learned of their existance.
You see, the problem isn't that I've don't have the sound files. The problem is that I never had a music folder with the music in it to begin with! I downloaded the game off Steam!
The only remedy (as far as I can tell) is to have somebody be kind enough to send me the files...

I think what Trajan meant was to back up Music DAT (game rebuilts event files anyway) file prior to extracting sounds. As for sending files...Music DAT file that's 280 MB...and to be honest I'm not sure it would be exactly legal
