    Hi All!

It’s a big week for Total War: Warhammer! On Monday we released the first in our new ‘Introducing…’ video series which showed off the mighty Demigryphs and also confirmed the first In-Engine Cinematic Trailer would be coming this Friday.

Now, to gear you up for tomorrow, we can exclusively reveal that tomorrow’s trailer will introduce the Legendary Lord, Karl Franz of the Empire. Read on to find out more.

Threatened from without by races bent on evildoing, and from within by political infighting and petty ambitions, The Empire has held together throughout the ages in a fragile alliance, often teetering on the brink of disaster. But now there is a measure of stability and hope for mankind. For one man is fated to negotiate the treacherous webs of Imperial politics and overcome countless entrenched rivalries to bind the warring provinces under his banner. A man of astounding military prowess, as gifted a warrior and commander as he is a statesman. That man is Karl Franz; Prince of Altdorf, Elector Count of Reikland and Emperor.
Soaring aloft on Deathclaw, most ferocious of the Imperial Griffons, and wielding Ghal Maraz, the fabled hammer once held by Sigmar himself, Karl Franz inspires the men he leads to feats of courage and heroism. A military genius and the greatest statesmen the Old World has ever seen, he is the Empire’s greatest hope for survival in a brutal, war-torn world.

In Total War: WARHAMMER, Lords lead your armies into battle; without them an army cannot exist. They are your generals, and are split into two categories: Lords and Legendary Lords.
Lords are powerful characters in their own right, each having a broad skill tree allowing them to specialise in a variety of areas as they progress: strategic, tactical and personal combat ability. A Lord’s specialism in combat can be melee or magic-related according to their battlefield focus and the race to which they belong. They can also be equipped with a wide range of magical items and a selection of followers, as well as mounts for them to ride into battle.
Legendary Lords, such as Emperor Karl Franz, are highly renowned characters in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle world. While they share many of same skills as Lords, they have access to their own unique set of more formidable special abilities, mounts and magical items. Additionally, the distinct magic items for each Legendary Lord can be unlocked by following a rich narrative quest-chain within the Grand Campaign, each culminating in a climactic epic battle.

Dammit, we're still stuck with requiring an expensive chaperone.

Just wrote a thread about it.

Anyway, I agree. The penalty of not having a lord is more than enough by having an army without a lord, because that means if this force was attacked you don't have a unit to counter an enemy hero. Not only that, you could have shogun 2 like penalties where a army without a general can be abused by agents VERY easily. CA are literally just removing basic strategic functions like building garrisons, recruiting an army over several regions, sending units by themselves to reinforce an army or settlement, holding a chokepoint with a small army to hopefully errode an otherwise more powerful army, etc.

I bet this is for the AI, and it should only be the for the AI.
