Gaidin,
And you know or should know that Jesus was predicted at the fall of man some 6 thousand years ago. So, in celebrating His birth which was over 2 thousand years ago makes your figures out somewhat. The man on whom Santa Clause is based and the giving he did was around 270 A.D. which makes that around 17 hundred years ago. Therefore what's the Christmas you are talking about?
Merry Christmas to everyone;
No need to be submissive to political correctness and just say "Happy Winter Holydays" to not offend other Creeds (paganism included);
Winter Solstice is important in any religious/spiritual movement.
"Pagan" is extremely generalistic. Can mean so many different religions it's very unclear to what it actually means stated in such way.
----
Santa Claus comes from Saint Nicholas, a Christian Saint. Santa Claus being a big thing in Christmas, I don't think it can be claimed his historical character of origin to be "pagan" when it's a Christian saint.

It will be seen that, as used, the word Fascism is almost entirely meaningless. In conversation, of course, it is used even more wildly than in print. I have heard it applied to farmers, shopkeepers, Social Credit, corporal punishment, fox-hunting, bull-fighting, the 1922 Committee, the 1941 Committee, Kipling, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, homosexuality, Priestley's broadcasts, Youth Hostels, astrology, women, dogs and I do not know what else.

I think Christmas is theoretically a day to commemorate the birth of Jesus. I see Santa Claus everywhere but not the one person this day is named after.
The image of Christmas seems very commercialised and people focus on shopping and spending money... isn't that the opposite of what this day should be about? I mean the spiritual aspect of Jesus message seems lost, replaced by a dude who rides reindeer. It is a bit strange.
It's because Christmas is no longer just a religious holiday. It's a national holiday. The many traditions of the feast, decorations, and gifts literally require no religion at all. And anybody non-christian or atheist will tell anybody to screw right off because they just enjoy spending that time with their family doing those things. Religious people that want to do religious things? Have at it. But it's evolved.

Anyway, it's now Christmas Eve, time to hang up your stocking and hope that Santa will leave that present you always wanted but never got. So, to all and sundry, have a great day, a day where we can all relax without having to hear of some poor beggars having been blown to bits across the world. Make it be a day of birth rather than death and may God bless each one of you in some way as to make it a perfect day. Merry Christmas.
HAPPY WINTERSDAY!

OK, we are now entering the last hours of 2017 which hopefully can pass peacefully. For lots of us the past year was an up and down one so lets hope that next year is more ups than downs. So folks, may I wish everyone a very happy new year.
