Stainless Steel 6.1 help

Hello, after attempting to modify stainless steel 6.4 to my tastes and failing horribly I would now like to install stainless steel 6.1. I have the game on my computer, but when I run the game on steam it loads the main menu and faction selection. If I stay too long on the faction selection screen the game crashes without giving a report. If I choose a faction the game will attempt to load the grand campaign map and then crash as well. So if anyone can help me with installing stainless steel 6.1 for steam that would be great. Thanks
