Divide et Impera 1.1 Preview: Animations Changes

Ladies and gentlemen, time for another Preview! This week's sneak peak is about the numerous innovations and improvements to the unit animations that will be in 1.1. After many months (or better years) of modding and countless new units and revisions, Don_Diego and Ritter-Floh had time to worry about such details like animations - or like they call it: animprovements

In the beginning the idea was to give the Romans better animations. Less striking, more stabbing with the gladius and a cohesive formation. But as so often happens on this mod project, all team members had some excellent ideas for numerous units and other ideas were quickly introduced. We have been working for several weeks on it and we are still busy with the polishing. As you can see in the preview video, the changes are immense and provide a whole new impression on the battlefield.

    The following changes were made:

    • New Roman fighting style: Much more stabbing, moving in combat ready stances, improved idle animations, and increased discipline.
    • New Triarii animations: kneeling while waiting for orders, moving in hoplite phalanx.
    • New hoplite animations: moving in phalanx, standing in combat ready and charging in phalanx. Finally the hoplite phalanx formation makes its return!
    • New charging animations for elephants.
    • New charging animations for barbarian units.
    • New reload animations for steppe archers with shields (not in the video, we are still working on it).
    • Some fine-tuning insde the sword/spear animations (only for units who use both weapons).

Enough words, let the preview video speak (Video produced by our battle guru, KAM 2150, and animations created by unit leads Ritter_Floh and Don_Diego!)

It's like we're almost getting close to a beta release.

Isn't that Heart of Courage from Two Steps From Hell? Seems like every piece of trailer music in the past decade comes from either them or Audio Machine.

1:17 and 1:28. The only thing I want to say right now is that I would gladly donate you guys for this piece of art. DeI deserves to be a standalone Rome 2 mod with a set price on Steam.

I forgot to mention (and I will now put it in the preview!) -

Video was produced by KAM 2150, our resident battle bad ass. As it says in the video, Ritter and Don created the animations and are obviously amazing.

Big animals like elephants can move surprisingly quick under the right circumstances. There is a lot of muscle in the neck area, despite the extra weight that muscle is moving, it's still a much higher density than a human being, and that means more speed in an action.

Of course the scale of a human head and neck vs an elephant head and neck are completely different, and might look a little goofy if you're not used to it.
