In all seriousness, I'm not sure. Ancient imagery depicts both, but it seems nearly impossible for some types of spears, such as the sarissa, to be used overhand.
I'm asking this out of ignorance, so marian legionaries didnt have flat shields but instead oval shaped ones? I've always saw them with flat ones (like in vanilla rome 2) every game & movie has them.
What i meant with flat was actually rectangular, its always portrayed as rectangular. Im really confused didnt romans used rectangular shaped shields after marian reforms instead of the oval shaped ones?

or is that a different period? Are there any another reform after the marians?
*sorry for the double post
The image you have provided features Imperial Roman legionaries, who were issued rectangular concave scutums indeed. This reform came after that of Marian.
This mod doesn't feature the Imperials at the moment.
Oh i see i was kinda confused after seeing them. Thank you for the info, very cool looking units. I also second to Illyria + Massalia reskin suggestion.
This submod is amazing!! The skins look gorgeous. Will this be compatible to the upcoming DEI 1.2.1? Since Epirus received a unit overhaul with altered/new units and such.
Any news about overarm animation for hoplites?

And now the wait begins for the 1.2.1 update.
Well everything on the Roman end still works (obvs), and the game doesn't crash when fighting Epeiros.
The mod only contains variantmeshdefinitions and seems to have the according models. It works but I deleted all Gre_ variantmeshes because they overwrite the new DeI stuff.
