Thread: Champions League Thread 2011

Default Re: Champions League Thread 2011

Well as you can tell from the sig, I'm a Palace fan and seeing as they are not going to be playing European football anytime soonever, I'm not overly concerned with who wins either the Champions League or Europa League.

There are a few teams however that I don't want to win (or in fact get any kind of success, big or small) and they are as follows:

Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Tottenham, Marseille, Lyon, Juventus, Real Madrid, Porto, AIK, Olympiakos, Brondby, CSKA Moscow or Shaktar Donetsk. All of them I dislike especially Shaktar (they pissed me off severel times in Football Manager and now I hate them lol)

I would be happy to see any team not on the above list do well, especially if they are a small team or one that is not considered having much chance of winning the trophy.
Proud supporter of Crystal Palace Football Club since I randomly picked them from a football wall chart while sitting in a caravan, on holiday at Presthaven Sands in North Wales in 1991.

    Other Clubs I like:
Local - Matlock Town & Chesterfield
UK - Blackpool, Nottingham Forest & Liverpool
Europe - Paris Saint Germain & Sampdoria
    National Team - England
If England get knocked out - Japan then Italy

Why is Olympiakos on the list?

Brondby? That amuses me... The Greek teams won't be very dangerous either.

I'm getting tired of the big money spending clubs sucking other clubs into it, raising wages and above all
the prices of players. Luckily the tickets here in the Netherlands have barely been raised at all, but in England... I'm hoping those damn Fair Play and Money rules will be in action soon.

Also the retarded ammounts of money the CL gives and why teams like Wisla Krakow, Victoria Plzen or even Maccabi Haifa can get in it, instead of much better teams such as Benfica, Udinese or Twente.

They might have to go to the EL, which earns you retardedly less money than the CL. Barely 2 million if you get through the group stage.

Actually, 2 million euros/pounds is more money than I'm likely to make in my lifetime, the thing is that bloated, overinflated salaries from Russian mobsters billionaires and others (all in the name of Financial Fair Play!) makes it seem like a paltry sum.

Well, if Benfica, Udinese and Twente wanted to play CL football, they should have done better domestically. It's not fair to freeze out teams from other countries simply because there are more teams with prestige and class in others.

The Champions League was supposed to be for Champions, the Cup Winners cup was for cup winners and the Uefa Cup was for the remainder of the high finishing teams. Now its just top few from each country into Champions League and other high finishers or cup winners in the Europa League.

I don't think they should boot out the smaller teams as much like the English FA Cup, people like it when the little guys knock out a big team. I would personally be in favour of booting out non domestic league champions and reinstating the Cup Winners Cup as well but I guess there are plenty of good reasons why it got canned in the first place.

as for my list of teams, they are merely teams whose failure I celebrate. They might be an odd mix but I have my reasons .

Good, almost thought it was time for the inquisition.

I thought that even the Belgian champion would have an easy time against but alas...
Meh, let's hope they get in a group with Barca, Man U and hell, why not Real Madrid.

    you are still sigged!

Barca and Man U only. I'm not a big fan of Real and I would find myself supporting Genk against them...

Flemish = Dutch so brilliant indeed

Nah, only joking, the thing is that even the Belgian Champion should be in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE instead of a fourth Spanish or English one. Eventhough they are... Belgian...

So Fenerbahce's out of the CL by their own FA after UEFA started writing letters because of alleged match-fixing. Wonder when it'll happen to a really big club. You know, arresting the club officials and police taking an interest in it. if the press is to be believed, the Turks are scimitar-wielding barbarians.

God I hate watching football on ITV, Peter Dreary is fast becoming as bad as Clive "Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, what do you mean they aren't playing? Manchester United" Tyldesly. The less said about Jim Beglin the better.

The Italian tv guys certainly seem to love their jailbait, every 5 minutes there's a close up on some hot 15 year olds.
